Enver Pasha born at 1881 has won its meteoric rise not by a military succes buy by being 1 of 3 leaders of Young Turks Revolution of CUP party. CUP until 1908 revolution was a secret organisation which was planning to bring English style parliamental Monarch to Ottoman Empire.

As a young officer Enver was a very courageous officer, good at battalion level tactics, very good organiser, a big Germamophile and highly charismatic.

Success of revolution immediately rises him to high level. Without ever commanding a regiment or a division he immediately become an army commander; so he never learned the most important aspect of high level command which is of course logistics.

His every "brilliant" strategic offensive plan always lacked the important ingredient of how the hell we will supply that offensive.

His first high command was being commander of Libya during Italy-Ottoman war. He uncharestically wisely took the direct command of only a part of the front leaving general coordination to more experienced officers and giving other front commanders total autonomy. These resulted in a surprisingly good defensive campaign hugely because of more talented officers under him such as Mustafa Kemal. That also had a bad influence at Enver by making him believe that he is a genius.

Than Balkan War has started. Ottoman Empire although relatively successful at Libya rightly believing the campaign as a lost cause signed an armistice with Libya and called all the officers at Libya back to the Empire. When Enver was back 1st Balkan War was already lost but now every Balkan nation was against Bulgaria. Enver won an easy victory against Bulgaria in now lightly defended Edirne front and became a national hero. And also his belief of himself has also risen to a new height.

After that he started his most important action. Reform of Ottoman Empire Army. He was always a good organiser but that reform which greatly improved Ottoman Army performance just in 18 months was his greatest service to his country. All old school Officers are forcibly retired, and young well trained officers replaced them. Army reorganised in triangular structure (first in the world) planned by German adviser Von der Goltz. (Every formation from Corps down to regiment had 3 subordinate formation from which 1 always kept as reserve) In peacetime all units were at skeleton strength, during mobilisation all new recruits mixed with already in arms soldiers (also a first in the world). That structure greatly improved war time performance of the army. Artillery and MG inventory also improved by buying new ones from Germany (Enver signed a secret treaty with Germany).

After such a good career, then comes the disasters of WW1. (In Part 2).
