I hesitated to post this, as I have very little to go on. However I have read a lot of these 'identify this game' threads and the combined knowledge and helpfulness of this community is staggering, so here goes ...

As a kid I played a really cool game at a friend's house, and I cannot remember the name. This would have been 1980-1982, somewhere in there. It was a deduction game and I think it had little green, black, and pink or purple pegs. It may or may not have had something to do with Dune.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Probably not, but maybe Mastermind?

It might be good to clarify how it was played.

Thanks for the quick reply Scott, and you are on the right track. It is not Mastermind, although I played that back then also, and it is possible I am confusing the two.

I think there was some sort of grid and we were trying to discover the location of bombs(?) or something and the colors of the pegs indicated their proximity. Sorry but that is all I can really remember.

Was it 4000 A.D. ? The space ships had these little pegs in them, I think to help identify in which part of space they were in.

Not it, but that does look pretty cool.

Or was it Black Box, a good deduction game. One players secretly chooses the locations of the objects on the grid, and the other player 'shoots' light beams into the grid. The first player then shows where they would exit, and so the other player can deduce if the beams bounced off or into things.

No, but that is a really good guess. We played a lot of Black Box back then too, and I would love to pick up another copy of it some time. Not sure what happened to our old copy...

It may be the Parker Brothers DUNE http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/680/dune, which came out in 1984 and is based on the movie version of that time.

I think I can get this one.

I'm pretty sure you are describing Shadowlord...except there really isn't any logic guessing involved.

Love your confidence Dan! I kind of wish this was it! I just read about this one and it looks pretty cool.

Wish I could give a better description for you. This question has bugged me for years and I know you all are my best hope of discovering the identity of this game. I really appreciate the effort.

It didn't have to do with guessing a "secret code" of colored pegs? Vaguely remember a game like that at my step-mom's parents house. Couldn't tell you what its name was though.
