Hi folks
I am trying to find a way to learn this game so I can play it online. I just got it for Christmas and have read through the rules.
I had a bad experience trying to play as a learner on Wargameroom and won't be going that way again.
Would anyone be willing to teach me the game using Vassal and Skype?
Thanks
Dan

I strongly recommend getting in on a play-by-email game. It is slower, yes, but this is a game that's best with 6 and getting six people together at the same time is, as you know, quite difficult!

I think the recommendation to get in on a PBEM game is excellent. I just managed to get involved in one, but there seems to be a fair amount of interest in PBEM here, so it shouldn't be too hard to find another one.
the pace is slow, but it gives you time to learn both the vassal program and the mechanics of the game. Being able to review the board and go back to the rule book to ensure you have it right is great.
Prior to getting involved in the PBEM game, I played 5 turns of the 1517 scenario solo, just to see how the game worked. i found that helped alot, but it ain't for everyone.
Good luck,
Chris

Can anyone suggest where to find a PBEM game that is looking for a fifth player?

All I did was start a topic like you have already done, and within a week or so we had enough interested. I know that there were a couple of threads that had similar discussions with people that were interested but we ran out of space.

I'd love to try a PBEM game of this, however I'm in no way an experienced player. I've played one 3-player f2f game and still have a bunch of questions about the rules.

I'd be up for a learning game though.

Dan,

Drop me a geekmail with your e-mail address and I will send you a save file with the first 2 turns of our game on WGR. You will be able to replay it using the program and you will learn a lot that way, especially with the board game nearby and the rulebook to refer to between the moves.

Not sure, PBEM games tend to haunt me at work, in my sleep, etc. I triple-think every move and keep obsessing about the game, not in a very sane way.

I can definitely see how that can happen. We're just in the Spring deployment phase, and as the Protestant, I won't get to act for some time, but I am anticipating every logfile. I can't wait to see how the game is going to unfold and I'm starting to obsess about my turn.
This is not a good sign.

I'd love that logfile too, to get a feel of the game.
