Has anyone noticed that the compass roses on the player board in the English edition have "O" for "Ost" rather than "E" for "East"?

That must be how they spell it in Puerto Rico.

The "O" is part of the graphics, which doesn't change between editions.
And with a German publisher and a German artwork designer, it is only natural that it is German orientated.

I was all set to say, "Well what about in the regular edition of the game?" -- and then I went and looked at my regular-edition copy, and found that indeed its compass rose also has an "O" (and "NO" and "ONO" and so on). I can't believe I've had the game for a decade now and never noticed that.

In Spanish, East is "Este" and West is "Oeste". So in this case, there might be two Wests on the compass!

I noticed this with a game called Elasund:

But I had not paid attention to the Puerto Rico board before. Thanks for pointing it out.

Perhaps someone could upload a paste-up to the file section to correct this?

In Sweden east is öst so I think the Germans got this one right ;D

West is väst.

It's the Spanish who call west the wrong thing. No wonder Columbus sailed west to India ...

In Norwegian, east is øst and west is vest. As you can see the similarities are astounding.
