Has anyone come up with a variant or house-rules for the kicking team to roll dice to determine how far the ball goes down field?
With the base-set rules, it seems the kicking team always kicks the ball 65 yards to the goal line. It might be nice to shake things up a little bit.
One idea is 60 yards + brown die. If the receiving team runs the ball out, then the kicking team also rolls the black die.
Any other ideas?
Since the NFL is kicking off from the 35 yard line now and most kicks end up in the end zone (except a few falling a yard or two short of the goal line .... maybe using the goal line as the basis, roll the Red and Black dice, determine the number and begin the return from there.
For example, if the Red = 1 / Black = -4 .... have the return start 3 yards deep in the endzone, or if Red = 3 / Black = -1 ... have the return start at the 2 yard line.
However, if you prefer teams kicking off from the 30 yard line, you could use the Ivory and Black dice instead, and you'll get more returns beginning from outside the endzone.
Anyways, just some thoughts.
