I recently received my purchase of the 15th Anniversary Edition of Settlers of Catan.

Love it ... Everything is bigger or better than the standard editions.

Except the Resource Cards.

They're much smaller than those that come with the standard editions.

Can anybody offer any insight into why the resource cards were downsized?

Lack of resources, maybe.

Standardization with the German version of the game. We did the product together, and any game like this represents compromises between our two standards. I immediately swapped out the cards for our cards (sold separately), so no harm, no foul here...

Acknowledged, thanks for the background.

On the up-side, the Edition did come with two 3-slot card trays for holding all the game cards.

Besides the Kosmos editions, the first and second Mayfair editions had the smaller cards as well. So really, the larger cards are a bit of a special case.

I prefer the larger cards, but since there is hardly any shuffling required in this game I think the smaller size is no big deal.
