The Adventure Continues...

The results are in - and easily more and half of WHQ fans have absolutely no confidence in our heroes! And who would? Our last gaming session ended in a slight disappointment and, as previously mentioned, we had not quite been ourselves.

Ever since reaching the last Settlement, things hadn't been going our way for our group, so we were quite nervous going into this adventure. It had been a painfully slow session and some of us were looking to shake things up and start enjoying the game. If we were going to die in this dungeon, we were going to go down fighting and tripping every lever we came upon!

RETRIEVE THE GRIMOIRE (PART II)
Dungeon Level 4 - Undead

Here we are, currently dealing with ten Doom Wolves and a half dozen Carrion. A pit lies in front of the west doorway which leads out of the Dungeon and we're all wondering if that's actually going to be important later on. Besides the fact that most of us are now planning on looking into the pit (from an Event Card - results unknown!), we are worried about any chance for a hasty retreat at some point later.

It's another long, drawn out battle (the pit makes it awkward for the Doom Wolves to enter the room from the south passage) and the Carrion fill in any space we are able to clear. We slowly position ourselves into the most optimal position to battle the Doom Wolves. In a total of six rounds, the battle finally concludes. The Wizard only rolled one '1' in the Power Phase (Carrion) and we are grateful to move forward in this blasted dungeon.

The Pit of Eternity
The Pit of Eternity is our first encounter with the unknown and we're all going to find out if it changes us for the better or for worse. No one but myself knows what will happen if we look into the pit.

The Outlaw (name unknown) strolls over to the pit and sticks his arm in... an Objective Room Treasure! It's the Helmet of Farseeing and he clutches it tightly like finding a lost love. It's his first taste of fortune since the last Adventure and he's going to enjoy every moment of it.

The Elf, Hakash, looks in too and her luck has not changed. She is transfixed and can do nothing until a '6' is rolled in the Power Phase.

It's my turn. My luck has been good. Apart from being able to hit the a dragon standing next to me, i have suffered no unusual setbacks. I stare in... a Luck Point! High-fives and a few chest butts - Flint Morgan, the Ex-Blood Bowl Player is stoked!

Wundra II, the Wizard, takes her turn. She is transfixed like the Elf. Most of you know that NOTHING is worse than a catatonic Wizard when she is the party healer.

Bearclaw, the Dwarf, was hesitant at first. His luck in these matters downright stinks. He's the butt of our jokes when it comes to rolling for an outcome of an Event. He's the one who gets caught in the traps. He's the one who falls in the pit. He's the one rolls a 1 when it's the only bad thing on the list. But the peer pressure is too strong for him ('Cmon, do it! Do it!). And Flint Morgan just got an extra permanent Luck Point. Bearclaw falls into line like a good little Beardling and he looks into the pit. We all get ready for the inevitable... a Luck Point. Something is dreadfully wrong here!

We have somehow crossed over into some bizarre parallel universe or have been possessed by chaotic, evil spirits. (It would explain a lot). Whatever the case, we are not the same Flint's Five that we were a month ago.

So we spend the next few turns lounging around and preparing for more Monsters, but the third Power Phase is a '6' and so we are on our way. To make a long story short, the east passage runs into the Flames of Khazla where we can heal 2D6 Wounds. Of course by the time we find it, we are all healed anyway. The distance of the Flames of Khazla Board Section in relation to the rest of the Dungeon makes it completely useless. It was just another incident in this entire adventure that left a bad taste in our mouths.

Return to the Hall of Death
We return to the Hall of Death once again where we end up having to deal with the last Event Card. Finally, a trap. Someone loses some Wounds and we're on our way again. In the next corridor is where the Dwarf remembers his Stonemaster Skill. Sure enough, there's a secret door and it leads to an Objective Room!

Discussion ensues: carry on or go in? This Dungeon has been one disaster after another. Or maybe this is a chance to turn things around and make this Dungeon worth it?

After much deliberation, the Outlaw decides that we're going in. It's nothing too terrible - 2 rolls on the current Dungeon Level, which translates into Ghosts, Wights, and Mummies. The Mummies are plentiful; six in all and most of you know they have the Tomb Rot ability, which totally negates the only Healing Spell that the Wizard possesses (Healing Hands)! To make is even more complicated, Luthor the Hunchback swings in twice before we kill the #@*!er. It becomes a fair test of our abilities and we pull out a good amount of tricks we have up our sleeves and consume every bandage and provision we own. It's a devastating victory for both sides and all of us have minor amounts of healing left (some Healing Potions, a Gat-Ork-Ade bottle, some mystery brews, etc). The reward is decent but will probably just turn into gold upon return to the Settlement. About the only thing going to help us in the Adventure is the Wizard's new 'Frowing Nife'.

The Objective Room
We steel ourselves and head to the end of the corridor where we finally find the Dread King's Throne Room. Gunther the Necromancer is there and we roll the dice and add up the score. What a surprise: THREE rounds to kill him before he summons the Dread King. But we're foolish, not stupid. We've saved the Lightning Fire Ring for his ass, as well as a couple of special arrows, firebombs, and an exploding football. (Welcome to Blood Bowl my spell-casting friend.) The Necromancer is destroyed in the first round of combat and now it's just a matter of taking care of those Mummies before they Tomb Rot us to death and stopping those Skeleton Captains from raining down their arrows on us. Oh, did i mention the Ghasts? They're like 4th Level Super-powered Ghouls. The Carrion appearing in the doorway behind us was unsettling. The Wights that appeared in the back of the room later titled the scales. More Ghouls. More Tomb Guards. We spent two hours in the Objective Room with a pile of Monsters killed and a pile more sitting on the Board. With our healing dwindling every round and the unending arrival of Monsters, we finally decided it was time to get out of there. A straight retreat was out of the question. (remember that Pit of Eternity?) Everyone had saved a Luck Point - we knew we were going to need it. It was time to roll on the Escape Table. And the results are below:

The Outlaw died! Luck Point. The Outlaw made it out - with half his gold.
The Elf made it out - with 1/8 of her gold!
The Ex-Blood Bowl Player made it out - lost a few Wounds.
The Wizard made it out - a perfect roll of '12'.
The Dwarf made it out - lost a few wounds.

It is an embarrassing defeat. NEVER have we had to flee the Dungeon. Flint's Five Fortunate Fools are no longer Fortunate and no longer Fools. This entire Adventure was one misfortune after another. We are unworthy of our group name and we look now to not only redeem ourselves but to re-evaluate who we really are.

There was only one of you who correctly guessed our outcome - congratulations! If we could have known who that was, we would tip you some Geek Gold. So we've come up with an idea:

THE CONTE$T
We are asking you, Warhammer Questers, to offer us an appropriate name by which to call ourselves from this point on. One thing is certain - we are no longer Flint's Five Fortunate Fools. But then who are we?

I will be giving away a 30 GeekGold prize to the person who brainstorms the best new name for our group. 10 GeekGold will go to 2nd Place Honourable Mention. All five of us will make the final decision on the winners. Any tips this post receives will go toward the prize fund or new prize categories (Funniest Name, etc.)!

You have just over one week to post your (unlimited) suggestions below or to throw in your (unlimited) GeekGold tip. This contest ends at Midnight (MST) on Saturday, January 14th!

Please keep it clean - our kids will be reading this stuff!

Winner - 30geekgold
Runner-up - 10geekgold
*Mystery prize #1* - 5geekgold
*Mystery prize #2* - ?geekgold

RE$ULT$ AND WINNER$!
There were 36 entries in our contest. The vote was by secret ballot and each of the 5 players picked their favorite three entries. That narrowed the field down to 4. From there it was one single vote by secret ballot. The top name got 2 votes and the others got 1 vote each. Since it was a three way tie for 2nd, i am splitting the 10 Geekgold prize fund and putting the extra into that category.

The single mystery prize was for the funniest, most amusing entry. There was only one entry that got 2 votes for that category so we declared it the instant winner. Thanks to everyone for participating and for your donations!

WINNER - 30geekgold

Maybe this is an option for the movie-title of your quest:
The fleeing of the coward Flint, followed by the following cowards...

If you ever deside to sell the movie rights, I'll buy the dvd!
