Hi guys, need a quick recommendation if you guys can help. I have a group getting together tonight that want to play some boardgames last minute just got the txt right now. We have possibly seven people coming. I really want to play BSG since I have yet to play it since I've bought it but if everyone shows up that's going to be one to many people. So i'm looking for a direct conflict game with a board and not based of card's. So no 7 wonders(I own it and really like this game just don't think the others will as well).

There will be a couple people that have never played anything beyond monopoly. I can stop by our LGS and pick up any game as long as they have it in stock.

Haven't played BSF yet--I know it can be played by 6, and is considered best with 5. If you have 7 people you should probably split into 3 and 4. For 6, check out

Yes, I know a proper 18XX tile should have a tile number.

Sounds like the perfect description of Diplomacy.

Jamaica (6 players, with a board and some kind of direct conflict + perfectly fitted for your "couple people that have never played anything beyond monopoly")

I would say that although you have 6 or 7 people, you don't HAVE to play one big game. If you split into two groups, it gives people more choice of what to play, and people are less likely to be forced to play something they don't want to.

People really often think they should stay as one big group, from experience I would advise splitting if finding a suitable game is tricky...

I also like Incan Gold with 6+ but it primarily uses cards (although I wouldn't say it is a card game)

+1 for Betrayal on house on the hill if only 6 show up

Cosmic Encounter with the first two expansions supports up to 7. And it is a blast!

Cosmic Encounter: Cosmic Incursion
Cosmic Encounter: Cosmic Conflict

It is certainly card based, but man is it fun! Give it a shot!

For some shorter games you might try Slide 5 / 6 nimmt!, Unnamed Object or Saboteur with the expansion.
