I hate it when I have to read the game rulebook and it reflects the light in my eyes. The same goes for various glossy game boards (Puerto Rico comes to mind).

Recently I started reading the Call of Cthulhu LCG rulebook and I am always distracted by the light interference. The pages are very glossy (is there any other word for it, I'm not a native english speaker ).

In my opinion, the Twilight Struggle rulebook is the kind of functionality I expect from board games.

Glossy vs Matte, a frequent concern when making physical products.

Glossy is more eye catching and usually more marketable but does suffer from ease of use at times. One challenge graphic designers face is what surface coating to use.

In the end, I prefer matte for rulebooks and boards with glossy for covers, etc.
