They explained everything in detail and at great length. After they finished I sat, despondent, contemplating a bleak and empty future. "I’m glad you’re depressed" said one. "It means you’ve understood the situation.”

After looking at the pictures I really want this one.

I try to justify that it's for my son (currently 21 months old) but I know that it's really for me.

Does that make me a bad dad, or just a little fiscally irresponsible?

Well if you refuse to share it with him someday, maybe bad

And if you're working on moving you guys out of a cardboard box in an alley . . . maybe irresponsible!

I plan to dragoon him into playing, so the sharing issue won't be a problem.

As for the cardboard box, well this purchase won't take food from his mouth, but wil incur rebukes from my wife.

Then again she knew what I was like when she married me...

I'm considering buying this for my son and he still has three months until birth so I'd say you're in the clear

I am in a very similar situation as you are, except that my daughter is only 15 months old.

My 22mth old daughter has lots of Lego - I think that makes me a great dad.

"Fiscally irresponsible"... check out the eye-watering sale prices of out of production Lego on E**y. Mine is not for sale however... I mean HERS is not for sale.

Thanks guys, feeling a lot better about my spending urge.

I think I can even justify opening it before he's ready for it.

Just for testing purposes, of course...

Also, it's a morale raiser as the little man was good enough to vomit on me in a taxi this morning (after a 30 minute journey and thus entailing an immediate 30 minute journey home again).

Lucky it's winter here in PRC otherwise the return journey would have been even less pleasant.

Man, that's a lot to have to go through... treat yourself to some Lego as a reward.

As for "testing" - its the only responsible thing to do

All part of the fun of parenting.

I will, however, take up your suggestion of a "reward". Might have to get a couple of sets and see what I can do with them....
