I was listening to the radio and they were talking about the typical scenario of giving up all but one (insert item). It made me think. If I had to give up all board games with the exception of one, what game would I choose? IMO I'd have to pick a game that the wife would play. I also would not want a game too light or too heavy for reasons above. I think a game with multiple scenarios would work. She likes Carcassone, Settlers of Catan and Mr Jack, but I've talked it over with her and we both agreed on . . .

Last Night on Earth (with expansions of course)

I'll pose the question to the rest of the communuty to see what others say. If you were forced by some event/person and had no choice, what game would you choose to keep?

I agree with your criteria. I would definitely choose something with a modular board and multiple scenarios. My choice would probably be Claustrophobia but it would be close. I also have Last Night on Earth and Gears of War that meet the criteria.

If I am allowed to keep expansions then Dominion. If not then maybe Power Grid.

Agricola would be the one for us. Of course, we would then buy the missing expansions.

That's difficult. My favorite game is Endeavor...but my wife and I play a lot of two-player games and so we wouldn't be able to play that very often (no, we haven't tried the two-player variation, but I'm not really a fan of variations anyway).

I think if it was "choose one game per category or mechanism" (e.g. one worker placement game), maybe I could do it. Just one game overall? Impossible.

For me it would have to be one of the classics: Chess or Go.

I'd probably choose Go since that is the game where I could most improve.

I would have to say Summoner Wars. With all the expansions, there are enough matchups that I'd never have to play the same match twice, even if it was the only game I played for the rest of my life!

For me, it would be Elfenland...that was my first "German" game and without it, I doubt I would've found out about the many other games that followed it...and probably wouldn't have stumbled across BGG either...

Probably Race for the Galaxy. My wife likes it and there's a lot of variety from game to game due to the nature of the deck.

I would have to go with all my Dominion. Just for the fact that it can be played well with multiple players, it is easy to teach and there is a huge amount of variety.

It would have to be Vasco da Gama. This game is like nothing I have ever played, incredibly tough and different every time due to the moving pawn that determines how expensive actions will be and the cool play order mechanism. Sheer brilliance.

Again, the wife would be a big factor in this and based on a compromise between both of us it may be Ticket to Ride since she enjoys it and its not completely devoid of any thinking, though it is a bit light for my tastes.

I may also go for a party game so we can continue the have large amounts of people, 10+, over for a get together. Though I don't know which one it would be.

Lance may have been close but a single deck of playing cards or a Decktet may be the best option to be able to play a variety of games.

Regardless of how good the game is, let's face it, you would grow sick of it after a while. Given that, I would have to go with a deck of cards.

Race for the Galaxy

I've not found any other game to have the replayability that this game does - nearly 700 plays and I'm still loving it.

Race for the Galaxy (with the first two expansions) gets my vote. Memoir 44 is a close second, along with Dominion. RftG takes it though.

Taking that into consideration I'd rather stick with a World of Darkness book. Way better than cards

If we are openning this up to RPG's then I would easily go with HârnMaster (3rd Edition).
