I have played Wotr since it first was released although not very regularly. This summer, however, I decided that i wanted one copy and that I wanted one really nice one. Since I couldn´t get one from the collectors edition at a reasonable price I decided to try to configure my own. Here is the result...

1) Ohhhh, I have stolen lots of ideas and stuff from people on this forum. If you think I have copied your idea/figure you are most probably right and I owe you a thank you.

2) I have never ever painted before in my life until I I started this about six months ago so I hope you have some understanding when you look at the painted figures. I actually managed to pick up a copy that was partly painted and partly wasn´t so luckily I didn´t have to do everything myself.

3) A friend of mine came up with the idea how to use some of the miniatures from the expansion while playing the base game. These changes are purely themati and doesn´t change any rules. More about that later.

4)When the 2nd edition came out I understood that I really needed a copy to complete my deluxe version. Firstly because the map was much better and secndly because of the new cards. In the end In paid little more than half the price of what I would have to pay for a copy of the collectors edition.

Ok, enough rambling. Here we go:

A new war of middle earth is about too begin

Rohan & Isengard units awaiting orders.

Defenders of the DEW-line

Mordor ready for war

My new ring-tracker. As well as new markers for hidden vs revealed. Blue is hidden and red is revealed. The new corruption marker is black.

Shadow minions.

Gandalf white & Aragorn - King of Gondor. Since I had twice of every unit I took the opportunity to create new figures for these when they are replacing the old figures.

Fellowship

Leaders of Middle earth (as well as a elite unit from North...)

Easterling units. Since my friend & I wanted to intrduce more figures he came up with the idea to use the elite units from the expansion be used when you recruit units in settlement north of Mordor (easterlings) & Mümakils when you recruit in the south. Of course you can never have more than six elites in play at the same time so this is just a thematic change. Plus I think my easterling cavalry are really cool

Southron units. See above...

Two elves & a dwarf

Ents are waiting for their revenge. This is another thematic change. These are just placed in Fangorn to show that there are still three Ent-cards left to play. When one ent-card is played you simply remove one.

Thanks for the idea on the LoTR Monopoly parts, I may need to pick up some of those. Too bad that one set doesn't have enough Strongholds in it though, you need a second.

See if you can find the original Mighty Empires.

http://fortressat.com/index.php/forum/34-pimp-my-game/110858...

It has fortresses (Strongholds), Cities and Villages. Also includes changeable flags to mark control; I did some WOTR banners for these; may post an updated file soon.
It has rather nice "banner" units which could be used for marking the large armies (WOTR flags for these pending).

You'll find that it's short of one fortress piece (15 in the set), but I use the Barad-dur chess rook instead (how many times does Barad-dur come under siege?)

Though I don't have this, Serenissima has some nice castles:

Anyone got some good suggestions of where to obtain models for Gandalf the White and Aragorn?

I'd prefer a mounted Gandalf the White if possible (without hat). Aragorn can mainly just be a similar but fancier model.

$66 is a bit higher than I'd hoped. For that I can buy an entire second copy of War of the Ring!

I may look into some of the Reaper figs instead, will post if I find anything good.

Can you post a pic so we can see the size in relation to the other pieces? I'm interested in grabbing these if they're close to scale.

One of the figures in Warrior Knights makes a pretty good Aragorn, and is about the right size, with a nice round base to boot:

Sorry, don´t have these first hand. A friend recommended them as good replacement for Wotr. That´s basically all I know.

I own a set of these. They are 28mm scale, while the war of the ring figures are only 20-25mm scale.

GW made an entire set of the fellowship for their skirmish wargame. The sculpts look really good, but they will be about 30% larger than the rest of the figures in the boxed game.

They also use round slotted-bases, so they have a larger "footprint" around the figure.

While GW made high quality figures for every troop type in the game, the board is still too small to hold them all.

Hi Steven,

Could you please upload a comparison picture? I've been searching all over the internet for a good Gandalf the White and Aragorn mini, and always circle back to these. I don't think I'd like the size difference though, so would really like to see how they compare.

Thanks a lot!
