Not sure where to post this exactly but a very kind user has just given me 30 geek gold to buy an avater after I helped him.

I have some questions, (I am also assuming that an avatar is the bit under your username with a picture) please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

firstly how do I get an avatar?
secondly how do I get the picture I want (I would like a picture of a parrot on its back with its feet up i.e. an exparrot)

Help greatly appreciated
Thank you

On your profile page:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/user/exparrot

At the top of the section titled "User Profile for exparrot" there is a link to buy your avatar. This will deduct the 30gg. When you next go back to your profile, that link will now read "Edit Avatar". Clicking that link will take you to a page where you can upload a custom image to use as your avatar.

As for the specific picture you want, you can google around for images, make your own or ask someone to make it for you.

The Avatar is the big picture under your name.

You can purchase an avatar slot from your profile page.

As for the avatar itself - you have to get/create that yourself, or persuade someone else to do it. (it's just a 64x64 image file). Google images is a good place to start - but don't forget that if it's a copyrighted image you'll need permission from the copyright holder to use it.

When you've found/created the image you want (and resized it etc), you can edit your avatar slot (again from your profile page) and upload the image.

I have another question regarding avatars. I have noticed that some people have animated avatars. I was wondering how you go about getting one of them!!

They are animated GIF images.

To get a picture of something specific, just do a google search for it, and then shrink it down quite a bit and then save it as a JPEG or PNG file, then upload it under the "edit avatar" in your user profile.

And you can change your avatar as often as you like, at no cost.

I've been through 3 or 4 (or more) before I settled on this one.

So try something, and if it doesn't work for you, change it.
