Having been inpired by recent polls, and not having ever done one before, I figured it was time to learn.

Poll
Do you feel, deep in your heart, that Saturday is...
a day of the week.
a day of the weekend.
a day of both the week and the weekend.
neither.
knee-ther.
nigh-ther.
not sure.
who really cares?

For me the week starts Sunday whenever I wake up. Fun will be had on Sunday but it is also my get ready for the work-week day. Some Sundays it only takes ten minutes at 2200 but sometimes it takes a couple of hours in the afternoon. When I retire from the US Army, Sunday will likely lose is prep for Monday purpose and become entirely fun-day.

For someone from the Great White North with Dawn Cherri for a handle, I would think that having the week end officially with Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday would be a good thing. That was always my favorite day when I was a kid. Dinner at 6pm, 'In search of...' with Leonard Nimoy at 6:30, Star Trek (and for a while Buck Rodgers) at 7pm and then at 8 ...

Saturday and Sunday are the weekend even if you have to work on them.

Now deep down I see Sunday as the last day of the week and Monday as the first. However in Japan it seems to be the widespread belief that Saturday is the end and Sunday the beginning of the week making the weekend the week's bookends.

Historically/Cultural/Religious speaking Saturday is (in western culture) the last day of the week (Sabbath). JC was crucified on Sunday, so Sundays was when the mass was held. But still was the first day and not the last day of creation.
But in Germany there is a standard for calenders DIN 1355 which defines Monday as the first day of the week.
Also a week are seven days, so naturally Saturday is a day of the week. ;-)

Oh and legally Saturday is a working day in Germany.

That's why I did three versions. Both of the normal pronunciations were covered, as well as the correct spelling for spellling sticklers.shake

In Israel, they have a 5.5 day work-week. They take off early on Friday, have Saturday off, but kick off the work-week on Sunday. Makes it hard when movie theaters etc (not, but many) ... are closed Friday nights and Saturdays and don't re-open until Saturday night. Sunday mornings were seriously difficult.

Is the Wargaming Forum the new Chit Chat?

Not really. There was a poll about whether or not board wargaming was a hobby. I read though the 1.5 page thread and was so underwhelmed that I said to myself, "Self, you have been holding off on trying out poll questions because you had nothing really good to contribute. Since this schmuck is contributing this dreck, go ahead and do a test question."

My test question was a sarcastic take on the other one. After a few posts it got booted to Chit chat.
