Pentex First Teams showdown - play by post - Write Up

This entertaining game was played last October in order to compare the strenghts of the old and the new Pentex First Team. The new First Team #28 was released today (Friday the 13th of January) as part of the Ambush fanset. Playtesters were Shad and Jihg, moderator was Kailindorian.

An Arms Dealer allies with Jihg’s Team. Elwood equips a Chrome Plated Hand Cannon.

Carlotta Stearns plays a Whispering Campaign on T.F. MacNeil. The latter may not participate in pack actions.

Moot:
Shad’s Team calls a Working the System, which passes (22 votes against 21). Shad earns 2 victory points because of it.

Before Sybil announces her Alpha action, Shad’s Team plays a Lost in the Jungle on Elwood. The latter may not take his Alpha action this turn.
Sybil then chooses to skip her own Alpha action.

T.F. MacNeil trades his Pipe Bomb and Blood Diamond to Sybil. The latter also equips an Odyssey Brain Serum. A Pentex Executive and Limousine allies with Shad’s Team. A Movie Star enters the Hunting Grounds.
Carlotta equips a Chrome Plated Hand Cannon. A Kinfolk Small Town Cop allies with Jihg’s Team. During open play the Arms Dealer fetches a shotgun for Charlene to equip.

Moot:
A Business Merger is called by Shad’s Team. It passes (25 votes against 22). The Teams have a temporary alliance, and can’t attack eachother.

Combat:
Sybil is put in jail by Jihg’s Kinfolk Small Town Cop.

Alpha’s:
Melvin (5)
Corinna (4)

Melvin attacks the Movie Star as his Alpha action, and wants to bring Charlene, Leergo and Elwood with him. He uses Roar of the Wyrm on the Movie Star. However, Shad uses a Friends in High Places to end combat.

Corinna attacks the Movie Star as her Alpha action. She frenzies and brings Ragnor with her in a pack action. In round one Ragnor plays a Surprise Attack, while Corinna plays a Head Butt. The Movie Star plays a Fancy Footwork, so no damage is done. In round two Corinna plays a Head Wound, while Ragnor plays a Fancy Footwork himself. The Movie Star may play 3 combat cards, and hits Corinna with a Surprise Attack, a Lucky Blow and a Full Auto. Corinna receives a total of 6 damage, but is in Frenzy. In round three Corinna plays a Head Wound and Ragnor plays a Bitch Slap. The Movie Star receives 4 damage and dies. Shad gains 6 victory points for killing the victim, but loses Corinna.

Sybil is released from jail by the Kinfolk Small Town Cop.

Resource:
Charlene trades her Shotgun to Melvin. Carlotta trades her Chrome Plated Hand Canon to Charlene, after which she equips a Shotgun from Jihg’s sept hand. During open play the Arms Dealer fetches Elwood a Heavy Machine Gun. Elwood is still in homid form, so he can equip it, but not use it yet.

T.F. MacNeil recruits a Kinfolk Small Town Cop. Sybil tries to trade her Pipe Bomb and Odyssey Brain Serum to the Cop. Since the Cop already has a weapon, Shad decides to trade the Pipe Bomb and Serum to Ragnor. An Honest Senator enters the Hunting Grounds.

Moot:
Jihg calls a revote on the Business Merger. He wins the vote (22 votes against 21) and the Teams are allowed to attack each other once more.

Combat:
Jihg’s Kinfolk Small Town Cop puts Ragnor in jail.
Shad’s Cop puts Charlene in jail.

Alpha's:

It is randomly decided that Sybil may have her Alpha action first. She attacks the Honest Senator and frenzies. In round one Sybil plays an Evasion and the Senator plays no card. In round two Sybil plays a Dry Gulch, but the Senator plays a Fancy Footwork. No damage is done. In round three Sybil plays another Evasion and the Senator plays a Lucky Blow. Still no damage. In round four the Fomori plays a Head Butt, doing 4 damage to the Senator. The latter plays no card, and dies. Shad gains 4 victory points.

Melvin Spivey attacks Sybil as his Alpha action. He brings in Carlotta with Sniper Fire. However, Shad uses Friends in High Places to end the combat.

Jihg plays Hidden Powers and places two gifts from his hand under the Event card. He also plays a Mass Pollution before the end of turn 3.

Ragnor and Charlene are released from jail by the Kinfolk Cops.

Resource:
T.F. MacNeil equips a Veil of Gentle Words.

An Arms Dealer and a Kinfolk Small Town Cop ally with Jihg’s Team. During closed play the Arms Dealer fetches another shotgun. Charlene trades her Chrome Plated Hand Cannon to Melvin, who equips it as his second weapon (see his ability). Charlene then equips the shotgun.

In open play Ragnor sneak attacks Melvin Spivey. Ragnor uses his Pipe Bomb just before the first round of combat, doing one aggravated damage. Moreover, Ragnor uses Odyssey Brain Serum together with the Pipe Bomb. Shad now has control over Melvin’s vote. Melvin pack defends with Charlene, Carlotta and Leergo, since Elwood can’t join in. In round one Ragnor plays Fancy Footwork. Melvin plays a Surprise Attack, Charlene a Full Auto, Carlotta and Leergo both a Tag Teaming. The Bane is Tomato Sauce and combat ends. Jihg gains 3 victory points.

Since it is still Resource Phase, Carlotta equips a Truthspeaker Stick.

Moot:
Jihg discards the Truthspeaker stick.
T.F. MacNeil calls an Expulsion against Charlene. Shad would normally have 26 votes including Melvin’s (the Serum) votes, but loses the vote because of the stick’s ability.
Charlene calls a Punitive Damages, and Jihg also wins this vote. Charlene takes possession of Sybil’s Blood Diamond.

Combat:
Shad’s Kinfolk Small Town Cop puts Charlene in jail.
Jihg chooses not to use his Cop’s ability this turn.

Alpha’s:
Leergo (3)
Kinfolk Small Town Cop (1)

Leergo attacks the Kinfolk Small Town Cop as his Alpha action. He bring Melvin and Elwood with him. The latter shifts into his Battle Form. In round one Melvin plays Eat Hot Lead, Dog Breath, Leergo plays a Full Auto and Elwood plays an Evasion. The Cop receives 5 damage and dies. Jihg gains 1 victory point.

Jihg slips two more gifts from his hand under his Hidden Powers card.

Charlene is released from jail by Shad’s Kinfolk Small Town Cop.

Resource:
T.F. MacNeil and Sybil both equip a Spiral Boomerang. A Movie Star enters the Hunting Grounds.

Charlene discards her Shotgun and confiscates Melvin’s Chrome Plated Hand Canon. She trades her Blood Diamond to Leergo. Jihg’s Team recruits another Arms Dealer and they play Relshab the Faceless Eater.

Moot:
T.F. MacNeil calls another Business Merger. Leergo wants Sybil’s Spiral Boomerang and calls another Punitive Damages. At this moment Shad still has 23 votes and Jihg only 19.

Before voting Jihg orders Relshab to devour Shad’s Pentex Executive and Limousine. In order to do this Jihg sacrifices the top two cards of his combat deck, namely a The Whole Nine Yards and a Planned Strike. Both cards are removed from the game.
He also plays a Spirit Backlash. T.F. MacNeil’s Veil of Gentle Words is discarded because of it.

Shad has only 18 votes, while Jihg has 19 votes. The Business Merger fails, and the Punitive Damages passes.

Charlene attacks Sybil as her Alpha action. She brings Melvin, Leergo and Elwood with her in a pack action. Sybil enters frenzy. Elwood plays Savage Fury and frenzies too. Melvin plays Eyes of Hate. In round 1 Charlene plays a Surprise Attack, Melvin plays a Eat Hot Lead, Dog Breath and Leergo and Elwood both play a Full Auto. Sybil suffers from the Eyes of Hate. She has to play her lowest rage, lowest damage card and plays Bitch Slap, which she directs at Charlene. Its damage is negated by the Surprise Attack. Sybil is hit by 8 damage, but is in frenzy so combat continues. Jihg plays Eyes of the Wyrm from under his Hidden Powers card, removing Sybil from combat. Jihg gains 5 victory points.


Turn 6:

Redraw:
In open play T.F. MacNeil sneak attacks one of Jihg’s Arms Dealers. In round 1 T.F. MacNeil plays a Stinging Wound and the Arms Dealer plays a Fancy Footwork. In round 2 T.F. MacNeil plays a Head Butt, while the Arms Dealer plays a Lucky Blow. The latter receives 4 damage and dies. Shad gains 3 victory points, but his final character has 3 damage.

Regeneration:
Nothing.

Resource:
T.F. MacNeil equips a Mantle of El Dorado. A Kinfolk Small Town Cop allies with Shad’s Team.

Jihg puts one of his two remaining sept cards under his Hidden Powers card. The final card is another Hidden Powers card, which he can’t hide there.

Charlene attacks the Movie Star as her Alpha action. She brings Melvin, Leergo and Elwood. However, Shad plays Friends in High Places, ending the combat.

Shad decides to pass his Alpha action.


Turn 7:

Redraw:
Jihg’s sept pile has depleted. However, he still has some gifts hidden under the Hidden Powers card.

Regeneration:
T.F. MacNeil is released from jail by Jihg’s Kinfolk Small Town Cop.

Resource:
Shad draws 3 additional sept cards during Resource because of his Mantle of El Dorado.

T.F. MacNeil equips a Blood Diamond and recruits a Pentex Executive and Limousine. Lord Choke, Master of Smoke joins the ranks of Team #21. An Honest Senator enters the Hunting Grounds.

Umbra:

Moot:
Nothing.

Combat:
Just before Alpha’s are chosen, one of the Kinfolk Small Town Cops puts T.F. MacNeil back in jail.
Relshab the Faceless Eater eats Shad’s Pentex Executive and Limousine for dinner. Jihg sacrifices two combat cards, namely Sniper Fire and Fancy Footwork. Both are removed from the game.

Before the first Alpha action, Shad plays a Lost in the Jungle on Charlene. She may not take her Alpha action this turn.

Shad’s Kinfolk Small Town Cop attacks the Honest Senator as his Alpha action. He plays an In the Public Eye on his Cop. In round 1 both the Cop and the Senator play Fancy Footwork. No damage is done. The Cop withdraws before round 2. Shad gains 2 victory points for the quest.



Turn 8:

Redraw:
Nothing.

Regeneration:
T.F. MacNeil is released from jail by Jihg’s Kinfolk Small Town Cop. He immediately sneak attacks the Honest Senator. In round 1 T.F. MacNeil plays a Head Wound, while the Senator plays a Tag Teaming. The Senator receives 2 damage, but has 1 health left. T.F. MacNeil receives 2 damage on top of the 3 damage he had suffered earlier, and is killed.

Since Shad is now out of characters, he gives up. Jihg, who still has all of his characters, is the winner of this amazing, high-level playtest game.
