Since the giant squid enters the game with the whale and can be moved if the whale is thrown on the red die, can the stop whale tile be used to stop a squid attack as well?

Also, can a squid attack a swimmer?

Although the squid rules don't mention anything about being protected from squids with the whale tiles, we have always played that this is legal. It just feels right that every tile/die with a whale applies to either a whale or a squid.

Squid cannot attack swimmers.

Don't know off hand about the tile but no, the squid cannot attack a swimmer. The squid can only attack folks on land (adjacent to the water) and folks in the boat.
