Hi guys,
after your recommendations i bought Le Havre for me and my girlfriend.
Unfortunately we have still to wait for it.
The games we most enjoy and play are:
Carcassonne and Puerto Rico.
We also played some Blokus duo lately, but it feels a bit dry.
I have Go! in my childplace, but somehow these abstact games don't attract me so much.

Now the balance is towards long games. Because of that i am looking for a fast game (around 40mins and less) which is very good with two and perhaps playable with more.

Most of the short good games will be abstract, right? Sth else out there?

If there aren't any in that time range you could stress it a bit or just close the thread (-;

Thx for all input

I really like Rivals of Catan. It is short and has a cheap expansion too.

Do you want something shorter and lighter, or shorter but relatively heavier/deeper?

Lighter example: Jaipur
Heavier example: Race for the Galaxy

Envious of you getting Le Havre! :-)

+1 for Rivals for Catan and its expansion.

Some two players that I love (and are all really fast) are

Lost Cities - archaeological theme tacked on, but still fun
En Garde - tactical(?) card game with fencing!
The Battle for Hill 218 - strategy card game
Blue Moon (if you can get your hands on it) - fantasy, expandable, non-collectible card game
Hive - abstract strategy, with bugs!
JAB: Realtime Boxing - realtime boxing fun

If you can't find something fun in that list, I don't think I can help you. :-)

Definitely look into a few games in the Kosmos 2-player series. Not every short 2 player is an abstract.

We like Fjords and Times Square... But I would agree with any game that people have said so far.

If you go with Catan the Card Game make sure you do Rival of Catan and not the earlier version. Much longer playtime.

My wife and I love Hive, though it is an abstract, but I love the bugs!

Pick & Pack Got this one in a Math Trade and it's become an after dinner favorite.

If you like Carcassone try Fjords. Similar but plays in 20-30 minutes. Great components. However, it is out of print.

Ascension: Deckbuilding Game - probably my favorite deckbuilder

San Juan - if you like Puerto Rico

Metropolys - somewhat abstract, but more chess-like with 2.

Belfort and Navegador are both meatier, fun with two, and doable within 45 minutes or so.

Biblios is a great game with 2, 3, or 4 and plays within 30 minutes.

stone Age is great.

Takenoko is a newer game, with FANTASTIC components, plays well with two, is light and fun, and finishes between 30 and 45 minutes.

Finca - great quick playing two player euro ... plays ok with 3 or 4.
Entrapment - fantastic two player abstract - it was re-released last year.
Quoridor - fun quick play abstract

+1 Race for the Galaxy - Once you know what you're doing you'll knock out 2 player games of this in about 20 minutes.

Eminent Domain plays in probably 30-45 mins 2 player.

Dragonheart comes in at about 15 to 20 mins.

Maybe try some "abstracts" with a theme.
I´d sugges Hive and Hippos & Crocodiles.

Some non-abstract games that work for two players ...

Mr. Jack
Samarkand: Routes to Riches
Starship Catan

And some games that some people might see as slightly abstract, but don't feel that way to me:

Cartagena
Duell

Considering that Carcassonne is a favorite - have you tried Carcassonne: the Castle? Great 2-player game. Plays quick....once you get the hang of it you can get through in 3- to 45 minutes.

One of the favorites of my wife & I.

IF abstracts is your thing, then take a look at the GIPF games (any of them, really).

Otherwise, try Summoner War, Campaign Manager, Battle Line, Infinite City.

Triumvirate is a glorious game.

Parade is a delicious game.

London is a nifty game.

Medici vs Strozzi is a hard-core game.

High Society is addictive game.

Balloon Cup is a mean little game.

Rowboat is a friendly little game.

Mean with the published rules. Much less mean with the designer's original rules (described here on BGG). Unfortunately it's out of print, so somewhat rare and can be pricey here in the US.

I'm kind of keen on Kingdom Builder at the moment. Have you looked into this one, Kevin? Very, very low player interaction.
