I've played TI-3 a few times now - and I'm wondering: Does anybody play with the planets / planet cards from the races that aren't playing? It would seem like an interesting way to mix things up a little - though perhaps it would mean the asteroid/nebula cards would have a lower %age chance of working into the game map.

I've never played with them, but I'm sure you could work them in. You have to remember a few things. First, the backs of the hexes are different, so you couldn't really keep it a secret that you had one if you were building the map via the normal rules. Second, the systems are in general going to be more resource rich than anything else in the game (other than another HS and MR).

While interesting, I don't think it would be worth the upkeep. As said the hexes have different backs. If not playing with Star by Star it would be easy enough to remember they don't count as home systems, but Home Systems are so rich in value that I feel it would negatively impact the game. I've found that "paradise" boards where everyone has easy access to abundant resources just lead to turtlesome games with no player interaction.

yeah - it was probably a bad idea! Do you use Distant Suns variant? Haven't broken this one out yet, have another game session planned in two weeks,, putting this into consideration.

IMO there are only two possible reasons to use Distant Suns:

1) You think the game isn't long enough.

2) You think the game isn't random enough.

(In case you can't guess, we don't use them anymore.)

Very funny!...I don't like Distant Suns or Final Frontier at all either.
