I am not sure what, exactly, to call it, but I am interested in finding a game (with a board! No card games) where you build your kingdom/land/town, etc.. This could included dolling out farmers and miners to certain regions of the land, trading, etc.

I have been looking at Kingdom Builder, but I heard the theme in it is pretty slim. I enjoy a heavy theme. I also am not averse to complexity -- I enjoy that, too.

Any ideas?

Belfort may fit the bill. Also, Mare Nostrum

Just based on the title, if you hadn't mentioned Kingdom Builder, I would have suggested it.

Catan has farming, mining, trading, and town building.

Antiquity got a reprint at Essen so you can probably find it for somewhat less than the $200 it was previously going for. Still pricey though.

I agree, OP could stand to be a bit more specific.

But I think he's asking about theme a bit more then mechanics.

I think Settlers is a good choice. It is pretty much exactly what he said he's looking for - farming, mining, trading, town building. Why did you think I was being sarcastic? It's not a "zero-luck" game, but I noticed the OP has games in his collection that use dice. The theme in Settlers comes out through the mechanics - you're farming, mining, trading, building roads, upgrading towns, etc. I think if the theme in Settlers felt tacked on, it wouldn't be such a phenomenal success. Games with mechanics that evoke the theme don't require flavor text and finicky rules. That said, Settlers is a little too luck based for my own tastes these days, but I still recommend it highly to someone who hasn't played it a gazillion times like myself.

I don't mind dice. In fact, I like 'em. I like changing fortunes.

I'd like to be more specific, but, honestly, I'm not sure how to be, since I really haven't played these types of games before.

Antiquity, unfortunately, is a little too expensive (even though it is on my want list), but Belfort looks fantastic. I like the theme and art a lot -- it stands out. I think I'll give it a look.

Belfort is not really a "kingdom building" game, you might be disappointed if that's what you expect from it. Having said that, Belfort is a pretty good game, you should still give it a look.

Well. . . I'd get to build a city . . . I guess that's pretty close! I can't really find any alternatives I'd be more interested in at this point.
