Lusitania, 300BC. Uncertain whether the Celts have a presence as far South as Iberia, novice General ousggus sends a small army into the settlement now known as the Spanish town of Trujillo.

He is surprised by a wild band of Celts under the wily leadership of folk hero El Catafracto. Retreating to the hilly landscape outside the town, the Romans build a siege weapon and confront their foes. The battle of Trujillo begins...

This will be a 60-point battle with the Romans deploying first and having the first attack. We will also try to include photos as an aid to teaching and strategy (mostly mine!).

EDIT: Before everyone gets too involved, I probably should point out that we won't be starting until Monday!

Ousggus was determined to keep the initiative, so he careful planned his deployment. By the time the Roman line of command started shouting orders, they could hear a sound that came from a small forest located northwest. It was the noise of a hundred war drums, louder and louder...

None of those barbarians seemed to have any protection.

Soon a burly figure, with dark skin, appeared. Someone whispered that it was Fracto, the Celtiberian warchief. He dragged a Roman prisoner. Suddenly he turned and slashed the throat of the poor legionnaire. Then the leader was soaked with the blood of his victim, he knelt and began shouting at the sky. No doubt he was praying to Morrigu, the goddess of war and death.

At such times a crow flew across the sky...

Celts fifth deployment: a unit of one troop, the Chariot, on centre rear.

Ousggus gulped, but swallowed his pride: "Hold fast men! We shall not respect their puny cannon-fodder. The might of Rome will see us through!"

Slightly bemused, for the cannon wouldn't be invented for another 1400 years, the masses of Roman legions grew...

Armies deployed but full units not yet revealed.

Ousggus rubbed his helment thoughtfully. He blamed that village woman in Gaul last week.

A researcher by heart, he knew the Celts would be concealing their biggest threat, the wild warriors known as the Gaesatae. These fearsome beasts had the reputation of running at their opponents screaming and naked, and he had no intention of letting 40 Gauls charge at him waving their todgers about. Well, not again...

I like the apparent symmetry of your forces.

Here you have my units with more than one troop:

GAESATAE 3,4 + NOBLE CAVALRY 5,5,6: left flank rear
NOBLEMEN 3,4,4 + NOBLEMEN 5,6,6 + NOBLEMEN 4,5,5: left flank rear

WARBAND 2,2 + WARBAND 3,3 + WARBAND 5,5 + WARBAND 6,6: right flank front
CHAMPION + SLINGERS 3,6 + SLINBERS 3,4 + SLINGERS 4,5: right flank front
