After a 3 week nomination period, and a 2 week voting period the results are in.

The voters (you) have spoken and the 10 wonders of the world are not enough. There must be 12.

Although there is a preference for a Stronghold Games edition of Merchant of Venus over Fantasy Flight Games, the preference gap which started as quite wide narrowed as more and more votes came in.

But, fear not for Fantasy Flight Games as their reprints and Star Wars games captured half of the top 10.

Despite 1609 voters, the difference between being in the top 20 (Wok Star) and out (Fortress America) came down to one vote.

Once again GMT Games has landed two titles in the top 20... Dominant Species: The Card Game and Virgin Queen.

However, perennial members Cosmic Encounter and Dominion are not on the list for the first time.

After taking the 2010 title of Most Anticipated Game of 2010 Race for the Galaxy has returned this year with a top 10 spot.

Alien Frontiers expansions also made the top 10 for the second year in a row.

There were also several titles that didn't garner the votes I expected them to. Perhaps highest on this list is Stronghold's Crude: The Oil Game which looks fantastic. I also expected Rebel Raiders on the High Seas and Next War: Korea (both GMT titles at or near P500 status) to perform better in the Wargame category.

One aspect that I find most interesting about this process is the discovery of games that aren't "on the radar." This year brought a number of discoveries for me personally, only a few of which included: Circus Train (First Edition), Exile Sun, AtomPunk, Belfort's Expansion, Eminent Domain's Expansion, Pizza Theory, Veritas, FrankenDie, Sails of Glory, VivaJava: The Coffee Game, Swinging Jivecat Voodoo Lounge and Dark Horse. Whew.

Without further ado here are the 20 Most Anticipated Games of
2012

unscientific experiment.
