It's actually a living card game. And a wargame. The rules are literally alive. They will eat you if you are not careful. They don't like you either.

It's a game about a so called "war" but it does not allow the players to move military units and resolve combat between them. So, per the defintion of a wargame in the glossary here at BGG, Twilight Struggle is not a wargame:

"wargame

n. A game in which players put military units in direct conflict with each other. The goal of these games is typically either annihilation of opponents or the attainment of certain strategic conditions. These types of games will often have high thematic content and a varying degree abstraction. (See also miniatures game). Wargames are subdivided into three general scales: Strategic, Operational and Tactical. (See also simulation)"

But I'd love to have a copy of Twilight Struggle. It's fun to play.

You have to, at least from a distance, look as if you know what you're doing, and I can manage that.

Not in Québec. We've got this distinct society thing going on where we just pretend we're married and live together, none of that red tape and expensive cake stuff.

The most we get around to doing is sticking bride and groom figurines in a plate of poutine.
I'm both sad and happy that there isn't good poutine out here on the west coast. Sad because I like it, happy because my waistline doesn't need any help expanding.

My wife loves Twilight Struggle, too. We've played it together about once every other month since we got it in fall 2010—and that's good for parents of a 1- and 2-year-old, with another on the way. cool

My condolences.

While you're playing yet another game of Soviet Dawn, I'll be sitting down for another game of Republic of Rome. Or will it be Virgin Queen? Perhaps just yet another game of Advanced Civilization. Just Mom, Dad, and the kids, having another fun-filled family evening. cool

Here I am in years to come, illuminating the rulebook to Here I Stand.
