I'm writing an article right now and I was wondering if anyone had any insight (or just a really good guess) about the size of the hobby gaming industry in the entire world?

I know that Hasbro and Mattel combined for around 10 billion dollars in sales in 2010 and that 33% of this business came from the card games, board games, and related products.

Stats for the Hobby Gaming industry, however, are very difficult to gauge because most companies are owned privately and are not required to divulge their financial information.

Is there at least a way to see how many new game entries there were on boardgamegeek in a particular year? If we guesstimate the size of the average print run (maybe 2k - 5k) and also guesstimate the average sales price per game (maybe $30 - $60), we could get a decent ballpark figure for the hobby game industry.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
