I'm really bad at explaining what scale I'm after, so here goes:

I'm looking to play battles, move tanks and troops from hex to hex

What would you suggest?

From the OP, I think you are looking for a tactical game portraying individual squads or platoons rather than entire divisions, corps, brigades or armies.

With the exception of the suggestion by GROGnads, the other suggestions are strategic, i.e. a higher level than I think you are looking for.

Another tactical suggestion would be A las Barricadas!. I think it is currently out of print, but MMP has it on its preorder list.

Though it matches the thread title, it in no way matches any of the requirements in the OP's post.

This is a great game, but warfare is abstracted to shoving wooden discs around on the map of Spain. Do play. But it has no battles, no tanks and no moving troops from hex to hex.

It has battles and tanks.

But I agree it is not the kind of game the original poster seems to be after: it lacks hexes.

Coming in the (near?) future from MMP.

Crusade and Revolution: The Spanish Civil War, 1936-1939 A military treatment of the whole war. Campaign level. It might not fit your bill as it is a CDG with point to point movement. Probably the definitive treatment.

A las Barricadas! (2nd Edition) Tactical game. The first edition was in Spanish and MMP is now going to produce it in English together with its expansion.

I don't know what you have to say, it makes no difference anyway: whatever it is, I'm against it!

It sounds like you want tactical scale. That is, each unit representing approximately 20 men or so, or a single tank. If that's the case, you definitely want A las Barricadas!.

The hobby was flooded with Spanish Civil War games just a few years ago. So most of the designs will be relatively modern and in line with other wargame designs you may be familiar with.

I'd check the above-linked geeklist and go with your gut.

A las Barricadas! to be sure. And Help Arrives! when it's available. Mamanachos! Tactical Warfare in Spain 1936-39 has a rating of 4.0, so maybe not the best place to start ...

Thanks for recommend España 1936 , but are no tactical. Best A las Barricadas!.

Note: There are more "battles" that appear in the game. Anyway SCW is more like the I WW that the II WW

How about [=Popular Front][/] from Numskull Games. 2, 4 or 6 player and actually a Euro-Wargame cross, but loads of fun.

I personally love popular front(actually we just finished another session), but it doesn't fit the OP's criteria. The units on the board are abstract and they are represented by cards and the map is point to point and not hexes.
