This makes me wish that they'd do a real sequel to the original movie. Matthew Broderick steps back into this iconic role with ease.

Here is the article that reviews the ad:

I can see it now...

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Work)

He's married to Mia Sara, Cameron is rich and miserable - he's been married and divorced 3 times. Jeanie (Shawna) is married to Charlie Sheen who is as weird as ever but is very successful with some off the wall business.

Ferris' boss would have to be someone really annoying and we'd get to see even more outrageous things he does on a day off from work.

Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again.

As a kid I watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off at least two dozen times. Damn good movie.

It's been attempted. There's been scripts written for it & attempts gone to "pre-production" a few times.

I always thought "Election" worked well as a sequel to FBDO.

If they did, would it feature Dean Rooney and if so, who plays him? Jeffrey Jones played him in the movie, but he's been persona non grata after his arrests.

From Wikipedia:

In 2001, Jones was charged with selling cigarettes and trafficking marijuana to minors. He was fined $5,000 and sentenced to 100 hours of community service. In 2003, Jones was arrested for soliciting a 14-year-old boy to pose for sexually explicit photographs and possession of child pornography. The misdemeanor possession charge was dropped after Jones pleaded nolo contendere to inducing a minor to pose for sexually explicit photographs; he was sentenced to five years' probation, ordered to undergo counseling, and required to register as a sex offender for life. In 2004 and 2010, Jones was arrested for failing to update his sex offender registration. On September 28, 2010, Jones was sentenced to three years' probation and 250 hours of community service.

I thought that line was "my worst role", referring to his not-very -believable calling out sick in the commercial (and of course a nod to the movie)?

I can't tell if I like this commercial for being a great memory jog to the movie, or if I don't like it because it's attempting to commercialize on that nostalgia. Probably leaning more toward like it, because it's more successful in my mind as the nostalgia trip/mini remake of the movie, than as a commercial.
It's interesting how some of the most popular/entertaining commercials really don't sell or tell about the product at all. This commercial could be for any car. It could even be for other products - maybe a fast acting cold medicine, "For when you don't want to waste a sick day being sick" or something like that.

Someone once told me, watch Ferris Beuller's Day Off and go into it with the mindset that Cameron is secretly sleeping with Sloane behind his buddies back.

So I did...

...and it made a lot of sense.

(Wish either of them had made an appearance in the commercial)

((John Hughes had reportedly been working on making a sequel for awhile, with Ferris and Cameron ducking out of work, but the idea of it died with him))

(((Interesting final fact, the actor and actress playing Ferris' parents met during filming and got married - since divorced, two children)))

Ahh, another wonderful example of the calibur of person that comes from the Western New York area. (Rick James, I'm looking in your direction)

I'll have to try that the next time it's on.

As for the commercial, it was pretty good. I liked the walrus part.

The fact that this never quite made it makes me feel some sense of pleasure that someone out there wanted to make a movie that lived up to its predecessor, and not just a cheap cash in on some nostalgia.
