Seems this baby didn't sell quite as hot as they thought. I've seen it discounted in quite a few places now. As of this writing, they claim to have 94 (!) in stock. Could they really have ordered that many?!?

Ha! I believe it, having seen how many dusty copies many of the local lgs have stacked up against the wall.

Hasn't Games Workshop sold out of Dreadfleet? If they have, then it sold well, surely?

It appears that some retailers have stock remaining, but that's not GW's concern - they don't offer sale-or-return.

Yeah, there's no way to buy Dreadfleet on the main Games Workshop site anymore. Heck, it's hard to even find any information on it on the main site now.

GW never sold out of Dreadfleet. They only meant that they sold out the inital patch of the pre-orders. Every GW stores has multiple copies of it. So, they decide to gather them all up and destroy them. You have been living in England too long with no chance of knowing other games and companies other than GW.

The next one being LOTR makes sense, with the hobbit movies coming out in the not-too-distant-future. Even LEGO has gotten on the LOTR bandwagon!

Depending on how badly this sold, the next GW "limited" box (LOTR) could be the last.

How do you know it will be Lord of the Rings?

I have not seen that anywhere. They are releasing a ton of LOTR stuff in February, but nothing on a limited self-contained LOTR game.

I don't know it, I had read it from another poster here on BGG.

Last I heard was possibly a 25th anniversary edition of Blood Bowl, but rumours are rumours, I'll wait and see.

My local retailer also got this one on sale. They have a huge stack of them that simply won't move despite the lowered price.

So guess this one tanked alright.

I wonder if it might be some re-imagining of the Battle of Five Armies, which is still available through GW's Specialist Games. I always liked the ~6mm scale (easy to store!), but I've never tried that particular title.

Though I think BB is one of GW's best games, I'd skip that one. I have far too many teams already...

Current rumors state that GW is recalling all the copies from GW stores (not FLGSs) and will be destroying remaining copies. Seems hard to believe but not impossible. Moving them at incredibly low prices would kill the initial demand for the next "limited" release they do.

What's the source of these rumours? This sounds highly unlikely. And besides, the game has only been out for 4 months. I am not sure why everyone is calling this game a failure for not selling out everywhere in 4 months. Very few games do. Space Hulk is an exception, not a rule, and it is not an appropriate game to compare this to.

Might be a good time to pick up a copy or two, and keep one as an "investment". Based on slow sales, this one might be the next big bucks item on E-Bay.

This is the first I have heard of this rumour, so I can't speak as to its veracity. But I think there are a few points to consider.

Firstly, because GW controls the supply chain from top to bottom, they are in a powerful position to monitor the sales of one of their games. It could be a far, far worse situation than just not selling out, but rather that they have warehouses full of the game.

Secondly, GW are not above taking a loss by taking this kind of action to protect what they see as their long-term profitability model. At the scale their business operates at, taking a slightly worse hit now by pulping a failing game is far preferable to never being able to replicate the success of Space Hulk in the future by diminishing the value of the "limited edition" one-shot game concept.

Lastly, it would not be that hard to verify. If the game suddenly becomes very hard to find in GW stores, despite the fact that it's clogging up shelves of FLGSes, then it's pretty strong evidence in favour of them taking this approach.

Heh. Knock yourself out. If GW are destroying stock because the sales are so bad, the likelihood an "investment" being a wise choice is questionable. To say the least.

Yeah. I wouldn't be looking to invest this way.

Actually this sounds very likely. GW will not want to sit on this product and having it warm the shelves. It's done 95% of it's sales by now, no point in them having it hang around as storage costs money and it's a bad look.
