Khazad-Dum seems to be a success story with happy comments all around, but I'm surprised that nobody wrote a review about this big expansion, as for the previous ones. I didn't get this one yet, but I'd like to know : overall, how good is it ? What kind of new options, experiences, choices it brings ? Is it really a must have ?
Thanks !

I like elephants. I like how they swing through trees.

One of the Cardboard of the Rings podcast guys just posted this review: http://www.tinyurl.com/Khazad-dum

If you have a few spare weeks to read through all of that, it should give you an idea.

If by "impressive" you mean incredibly, mind-bogglingly long and detailed, then yes, it's very impressive.

I think you'd be able to order the game, have it shipped via USPS media mail, sort out all of the cards, build some decks and play through each scenario a few times... before you'd be able to finish reading that.

Uh massive review in the link... Simply too long to digest easily. I skimmed it, but it was too much to read over my limited lunch hour.

Very good. A very different feel to the core set, new challenges, good artwork, plenty of flavour.

All underground locations. Generally high threat and often hard to clear.
More combat, and against greater numbers of foes. Nastier shadow effects.
One quest uses a "deck" of quest cards which you draw from, which is innovative. New mechanics, such as Dark locations and enemies who engage as soon as they are revealed.

I'd say it is more worthwhile a purchase than any of the Mirkwood cycle quests. It's also essential if you intend to get any of the Dwarrowdelf packs.

I love how at the very end of TheLightdarker's review he says:

The review is no longer available. I am sad it has been taken down.
