When reading about the current events in the UN regarding Syria, am I the only one that thinks 'Oh, the USSR just played the China card'?

I'm not convinced the Cold War is over.

The Cold War ended in 1989. That doesn't mean another can't start.

If ever there was a cold warrior, it surely is "my friend Vladimir". That guy gives me the creeps.

Right. It is ironic that they call their political system "democratic". After side stepping for a while in the Duma and then going for president again...

Well, sorry, I am aware this is not a political forum. Possibly we currently experience those events that we will play 20 years from now in "Dawnlight Struggle" or something...

There's a good series about Putin on the BBC right now. It's very good.

Anyway, I think most people know the declaration to end the cold war was simply a political statement reflecting a totally new reality. But the cold war was still there in some form I think, just dormant for a while. There's plenty of meat to add an expansion although Labyrinth: The War on Terror, 2001 – ? may have dealt with that already.

Thread locked.

We have a designated Religion Sex and Politics forum - posting on those topics outside of that forum is not permitted.

Remember, if you see content that you find offensive or otherwise violates our Community Rules please consider flagging any offending posts as violations by using the icon rather than responding. This serves two functions - first, if enough users flag a post then it will be collapsed from general view. Second, flagging posts helps bring them to the attention of the forum moderators.

Thanks!
