Hi

Where in the rules does it mention that landscapes have levels? Even though it would be logic that the mountains and Hills do have levels.

And

When you have a ranger (or any character that can use ranger striking (except Warlock)) standing on a "hill" or any so called leveled terrain, can you then use ranger striking against an opponent, even though you have a friendly unit in between?

And if you have a ranger in the middle of a tower and friendly units all around. Can you still use ranger striking against opponents with in range?

It's been a while since I've read the rules so if anyone wants to correct me, please feel free.

(1) As for "levels" - I don't remember exactly where in the rules it's explained, but the lighter the shading of the hex on the battleland, the higher the terrain. There should be explanations of the terrain effects on the battleland boards.

(2) You can rangestrike with your ranger with a friendly unit between you and your target only if the target is at the same height as you and your friendly unit is lower than both of you. To word this better... if you and your target are both standing on a hill and your friendly unit is standing in the "valley" between you & your target, you can rangestrike.

(3) I don't think so. If I remember the Tower battleboard correctly, you'd have two walls between you & your opponent if you were completely surrounded by friendly units, so only a Warlock would be able to strike in this situation.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it would be helpful to have it referenced in the Strike Phases section of the rules, but that information is on the Hazard Chart and you have to know where to look.

In the Character section of the Hazard Chart:
EFFECT ON RANGESTRIKING: Rangestriking may not pass
through a hex occupied by a character except under three
conditions: (1) the rangestriker is a Warlock; (2) the character
is at the base of a Cliff and the rangestriker or target is
directly atop it; or (3) the character is at a lower elevation
(see Plain hex below) than both the rangestriker and target.
A character in contact with an enemy character may not
rangestrike.

In the Plain hex section of the Hazard Chart:
Difference in shade serve to distinguish between different
elevations, lighter shades being higher.

So, yes a ranger on top of a hill could rangestrike over an adjacent friendly character at a lower level, if the target was on top of a hill (or as long as the target was at a higher level than the character that the rangestrike passed over).

And in the Wall section of the Hazard Chart:
There is nothing mentioned in the Effect on Rangestriking that pertains to elevation.
Although, the Tower does have different levels, there is no way to rangestrike over a creature and target a creature at a higher level than the one the rangestrike passed over.

So, no, a ranger in the Tower cannot rangestrike over surrounding friendly units to target an enemy outside, because the target is not at a higher level than the one the rangestrike passed over.

This will clarify things.

Will hills also block rangerstricking?

Yes, even if no creature is on the hex, the hills will block rangestrikes. Although a hill is not really defined, look to the effects of slopes.

From the Hazard Chart: Slopes: Effect on Rangestriking:
A rangestrike may cross one
or two Slopes only if the hex Slope is occupied by either
the rangestriker or the target.
