Hi, All! Looking for a moderate (or lower) complexity Anitietam game. Solitaire compatibility would be a plus, but not necessary. Civil War gamers, please share your thoughts! Thanks!

Re: Antietam game recomendations
MMP's Line of Battle series would be the ultimate gaming experience, but I sense you are looking for a modest start. From a cost standpoint, I'd recommend giving the following a try:

Antietam

Re: Antietam game recomendations
I asked exactly the same question here back in August, 2010 and I received many helpful replies. If you would care to read the thread, go here:http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/551637/antietam-game-rec...

I hope this helps and good luck.

Re: Antietam game recomendations
It's not a board game in the strict sense, but Line of Muskets is a pretty simple hex and counter online system for playing American Civil War battles, Antietam included. Some of the smaller battles allow solo play, but others require two or even three players based upon the size of the battle. There is a small following, but you can get a game if you put a game invitation on the site.

Bloodiest Day:the battle of Antietam by Spearhead Games a game with area movement and combat a bit like 'Breakout Normandy' and a neat McClellan rule. plays well solo. of course it is out of print but there should be copies out there.

I've played Glory III. It seems to fit your description and is still in print and on sale at GMT for $25.00 Chit pull mechanism makes it a good solitaire game. Also, the learning curve is modest.

Re: Antietam game recomendations
Well, liking what I see so far! Leading contenders look like None But Heroes, Bloodiest Day, and Antietam: the Bloodiest Day, 17 Sept, 1862.

But the FIRST one I'll try is...Glory III! Why THAT one, you ask?!? Well, okay...I'm dumb. That one's ON MY SHELF unplayed. shake Totally forgot that Antietam's covered in that one. blush Do I have to relinquish my wargamer card now?!?

I did play the original Glory and really liked it. So it'll be Glory III to start, then we'll go from there.

Thanks for reminding me of what I already HAVE!!!

I really like Antietam: Burnished Rows of Steel, but it's probably pretty hard to find a copy. It's designed to play either solo or 2-player, but I've only played with the solo rules.

The only thing wrong with it is the firing sequence for artillery; Nicodemus hill can be crushed with no effort as the CSA rushes the place without risk of fire defensively.

If the game is played right, the Confederates should be defending Nicodemos Hill.

Has anyone played A Gleam of Bayonets: The Battle of Antietam

I would be curious how well it played vs other GBACW games ...
