My wife got this game for me for valentines day after noticing how much I was reading up on it.
I played a solo walk through game just to get the mechanics down. I then asked my wife who is not a gamer if she would consider playing so that I may get a bit better taste of the game against an opponent. After a few bribes and promises she finally agreed. We only got a chance to play a few turns before our daughter needed more attention than she was getting, but it was great fun. She selected the Soviets and seemed to pick up the game quickly.
The next night after dinner and both kids asleep she asked the unthinkable. "Ed, why don't you pour us some wine and we can try that game again." I'd love to have seen my face as she said that. Apparently she had looked it up online and found her way to this site to do a bit of research. I think I finally found a game my wife is interested in playing. Maybe tonight she will ask to play again.
Interesting bio Jim. Playing a game about the cold war with someone with your background would be interesting. I know quite a few guys who served in the navy but nobody on a submarine. I was in the Air Force myself. Back in the early 90's I got to spend a day on the U.S.S. Caron with my former brother in law. That was quite interesting.
