I am possibly going to trade for the first edition of this game. Is there any reason I should try for a later edition or is the first edition on par?

There is no jewller in the 1st edition. Otherwise it's the same.

Not exactly true. There were some iconography changes on the tiles after the first edition. These didn't change any rules. They were only changed for clarity:

I believe the iconography on the stone farms changed as well (the owner benefit when another player activates them), but I cannot find a picture.

Also, some 2nd editions didn't come with the Jeweler either. Mine didn't.

Ah, I also forgot that the 1st edition has the dreaded plastic money, somewhat like the coins in Brass: Lancashire. The second edition has cardboard money.

Here's a thread which compares 1st vs. 2nd editions:

2nd edition is better in pretty much every area. I'd only go for the first edition if the price is an amazing bargain.

However, I happen to have an extra copy of the jeweller and if you do trade for the 1st edition, you could send me a Geekmail and I would send it to you.

If Dave does not finalize that trade and you are still willing to give up the jeweler, I would love to have it. By the way, I have the English Second Edition and this building was not in the box.

Note that there is another edition coming "soon" (originally February, now April, at least in Europe). It has new box art, and I think the buildings have new graphics.
