Good night, Westley. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you an hour earlier in the morning.

Here in Arizona, we don't do the daylight savings thing, so we don't lose an hour of sleep plotting the destruction of others.

Did you ever notice that never happens when we set the clocks back? Have you seen anybody show up at work an hour earlier in the fall?

I used to work nights covering the weekends in a computer room. Since I was hourly, I asked if I got overtime in the fall when we set the clocks back and I was at work for an extra hour.

HR said I wasn't at work an extra hour since my timecard showed I worked 8 hours.

When I explained I was physically at work for 9 hours instead of 8 they said that everything offset in the spring when folks worked only 7 instead of 8.

I then explained that I was on a rotating shift and I hadn't worked in this shift in the Spring and in the upcoming Spring I wouldn't be on that shift again.

Finally HR asked if he gave me $10 would I shut up. I said since my hourly rate was $10, it would take $15 (time and a half). He replied that the taxes would take a good chunk of that so I should just settle for $10.

I explained that the amount of time that it took him to back file my payroll and then the fallout from everyone else that had worked that shift, not to mention the hell that would be raised in the Spring by the folks that only got paid for 7 hours, it would probably be easier to give me $20.

I got $20 and left his office.

My boss reminded us about Daylight Savings last week. My shift is Sunday - Thursday from 5:30am - 2:00pm. I ended up going to bed at 7:00pm Saturday night so that I can wake up at my normal time, 4:00am (feels like 3:00am).yuk

I hate DLS with a passion. It is dark now when we go to work and I have to run the A/C colder, longer in the afternoon--because we're home.

Question:

Are there any reputable studies that show what the actual benefits are?
Does it really save money? (or whatever the intended purpose is?)

It costs more money because electricity use rises (people are up more when the sun is up, therefore average higher temperature, therefore higher AC use).

But I still love it anyways.

IMO, the sun should rise at 8-9AM, every day. When it rises at 5, well, I've just gone to bed, and I want some sun for myself. During the winter here, it feels like I wake up, and then it gets dark out.

Ah.......but see, living in Florida, more sun is not such a great idea.

True, you could get away from DST by living in Arizona. But then you'd have to, you know, live in Arizona.

No DST was the best thing about Indiana while I was off at college there. Then Mitch Daniels had to come and foist it upon us my senior year. I may never forgive him for that shake

If no DST was the best thing about Indiana while you were there, well, that's a pretty sad statement about Indiana
