My SO told me i have a problem and need to go to board gamers anonymous, which made me laugh crazily of course. Ive tried to tell her im not bad compared to some others. I only have 61 games. Luckily she doesnt really have a problem with my gaming or game collecting she just doesnt understand how boardgames can be "collected".
Any ideas how I can explain to her that my game collecting is no different then someone collecting cards or stamps etc?

You've already nailed it... "It's just like collecting cards or stamps"
However, she may well be the sort of person who thinks collecting cards or stamps is an odd hobby - which doesn't really help you.

For me it's like books. I always intend to read the books I buy, but sometimes I don't...and yet I still mean to get to them eventually. Furthermore, imagine that print runs on books were much smaller than they currently are and there are very few if any lending libraries.

Perfect, now I just need to get her to start buying lots of shoes... Or maybe not.
Its funny because she loves playing Roads & Boats and Hive with me, she just dont get why I need more then those 2 and a couple more to play with friends. But alas, at least its not an actual problem.

I used to work in a bookshop and each week we'd have deliveries and I'd go 'oooh, must get that' then it would sit on my shelf. A friend of mine worked in a model shop and each week new models would come in and he'd go 'oooh, must get that' and they the boxes would sit on his shelf.
No one knows whether or not I've read the books so I look smart. Everyone knows that he hasn't built the model so he looks lazy.
Books rule.

Tell her its better than collecting girlfriends.
Or, if she is a keeper, tell her they'll be great for playing with the kids one day.

It's cheaper than collecting girlfriends, but only marginally so.

This is pretty much how I justify everything I buy . . .

I don't find it similar at all. With all due respect, I find collecting cards or stamps is an odd hobby. I find buying a lot of games, books, films, computers or whatnot is not at all as odd. I even find collecting leaves, of butterflies, or bottlecaps more understandable than stamps.

Well boardgames do seem to last a bit longer and let you play with them whenever you like
On the serious side of things I can't wait to have kids! Can't wait to introduce them to the world of boardgaming. I grew up with them and think it's an integral part of getting the creative/strategic brain working early on in life Not to mention it's ridiculously fun!
