While it's true that the Rochester Boardgaming Society meets on the third Saturday of each month, we also have a Boardgame Day every Wednesday from noon until we decide to stop playing.

I'm there almost every Wednesday, stop by and ask for Rik. I'll help you with introductions and try and find a game to get you in.

I also send out a weekly email for all the Wednesday gamers. If you'd like to be added, just send on an email address to me.

We'd love to have you, so stop by.

I'm in Canandaigua and I'm always looking to find people to play L5R and or Magic with but I do love a good board game. I'll come right out and say it though.... I'm not a fan of Millennium. I typically play at my house after the kids are in bed, or at a friend’s house. If anyone is interested in getting together send me a pm.

I'm south of Rochester in Conesus, and I tell you, I can't find anyone who plays wargames. Everybody is either Magic:tG or some Eurogame crap. Doesn't anyone around here play LnLs World at War games or Avalon Hill Games or SPI games? Miniatures? I've been living here for 7 years, and have yet to find someone. And yes, Millinium sucks.

I've been playing at Millennium for around 10 years now and live in Livonia.

I love the place and can't figure out why either of you hate the place.

You want wargames? We have about 20 people who play them on the third Saturday of every month, at Millennium. 10Am until 10PM. GMT, SPI, AH, you name it. One of our gamers has a game being released on GMT this year.

The place changed ownership over a year ago and the new place is clean, well lit and run by new owners.

As I said above, we also play every Wednesday from noon until we want to stop. We stay after close until we generally decide to quit.

If you have any questions and want to talk about it verbally, gm me and I'll be happy to call or be called.

Oh and I neither own any part of the store nor work for them.

A robust defence of Millenium, Rik. I went in a Saturday once and I didn't see anybody playing wargames. Perhaps it was not the third Saturday. I'll check their site and see the schedule and I'll drop in and see whats what.

The new store is cleaner, but the selection is small and the prices high.

I've brought War Games to Millennium in the past and I think it is more of a matter of communication. There are plenty of people who want to play myself included. I know for a time people played Flames of War, Axis and Allies Miniatures and War at Sea. I also like to play lighter games like Memoir '44 and Academy Games like Strike of the Eagle and the Conflict of Heroes series.

If I may, I'm not a fan of wargames (I enjoy the aforementioned Eurogame crap), but the Rochester Board Game Society has a number of avid wargamers, one of whom is the designer of the new Crown of Roses from GMT. I believe I saw Virgin Queen played a few months ago too. Perhaps is you try reaching out to the group, you can try to formally organize a session with a war game you want to try. A simple, friendly "I'd like to try X War Game this Saturday, would anyone like to try it with me" I'm sure will solicit a few responses.

Cool ... my wife was working at Wegmans in Rochester when I met her.

Now I get her cheesecakes all to myself.

I'd love to get involved in a group. I live in Manchester, and up until recently, played mostly "eurocrap" games. I went a little nuts about a year ago and picked up games like Dungeon Run, Summoner Wars, and a few others (much to the disappointment of my Catan-loving wife), but recently started getting into Dust Tactics and thinking of jumping into either Malifaux or Flames of War. My issue (or my excuse) for not seeking a group WAS the fact that I work overnights wed-sun, but I'll be a regular 9-5'er come Monday so no more excuses.

Well Jerry, we do have a regular Wednesday group that meets at Millennium in W. Henrietta. While a good many of us play "eurocrap" games, there are some that will play the the types you mentioned. Not too many for miniatures, although there are plenty of miniatures layers who play there. Ask at the counter for minis hookups.

If you want war games or miniature boardgames a la Dust, the third Saturday of the month should find you players when the Rochester Boardgaming Society meets.

If I can help you out in finding games, please let me know.

Thanks. I was just nosing around the Millenium website and calendar. It seems like quite a lot going on there, but the last time I was in I felt like the guy behind the counter was too bothered by my presence. I almost didn't buy anything (but couldn't resist the urge). The lock-ins sound fun- $9 to hang out, play board games, and eat pizza, but it'd probably be packed with kids! Ha! I show up and they might keep a suspicious eye on me (the older guy in a room full of children tends to seem out of place). ninja

I'm going to do a bit of digging on these forums to see what info I can find, as I'm pretty new here and don't want to irritate people and invite the "do a simple search, noob" trolls just yet.

I'm 60, so the age thing isn't a factor. The lock ins are mostly LAN parties, with some magic players. There are a few of us that do the lock in for boardgames, but generally if I can't get at least 2 others to stay, I don't either.
The guys who work there are generally helpful, and mostly informed. The owners, Rob and Travis, I can guarantee don't want you to feel like a bother, they value their customers highly.

As I said, if you want more info, stop by anytime on a Wednesday, ask the guy at the counter for Rik (or just look for the old, fat, bald guy), and they'll certainly escort you to wherever I am.

Jerry,

If you're interested there is a small group (10-12 people) that meet on Fridays (7:30-11:30) at Roberts Wesleyan College (Chesbro Hall). The age group is 30 and up and we play everything from boardgames (Catan, Power Grid, etc.) to table top miniatures (Axis and Allies, HeroClix, and Dust Tactics). Let me know and I will have the person (Joel) who runs it add you to the mailing list. Also, it is not every Friday, we probably average a meet about twice a month which is why you want to get the emails.

Garret

How late does the game night on wed last? I get out of work at 6 and really want to find a group to play with, even if it's just 3 other people. I live downtown in rochester.

You're in luck. We often play well after the 10PM closing time. Come on in when you get off work and ask for me. I'll help you get into a game.

Thanks Rik and Garret. I'll PM you my email address so you can add me to your respective lists. My schedule just went from overnights to weekdays (starting in the AM), and this weekend I'm in DC, but I look forward to getting together and learning some new games! I actually just bought the Flames of War Open Fire! boxed set from eBay, and I just finished painting my first mini, so I couldn't be more excited to play!

Sweet! Just the topic I was looking for. I've been in the Rochester area for a couple of years now and have been wanting to find a good place to play some board and card games.

I will be checking out Millennium soon, thanks for the recommendation.
