I love watching the reviews that Tom does and I really respect his opinion. I usually watch all of the Dice Tower reviews and the Miami Dice reviews.

After watching the Miami Dice review of Ora & Labora today I had a thought:

Who cleans up the mess thats left after the component drop portion of the video?

It took me like 20 minutes to punch and organize the tokens for O&L I can't imagine mixing them all up + the cards + the boards and the mess it must've been to get that all organized again!

It's just a slow-motion zoomed in shot of a very small, walled-in area. I doubt there is really any mess at all.

edited to hyphenate "walled-in" lol

It is not the cleanup that concerns me - I truly cringe during the drop, worried about damaged cards or other pieces.

I am sort of anal about protecting my components. Example: I wanted to play my new Battle Line game with my wife last night, but before the yet-to-be-sleeved cards were dealt she just had to get some hand cream. Whoa! Time out! "You're not touching the cards with those greasy hands," I exclaimed, so the game was delayed until the cream was fully dried.

So when I see one of Tom's component drops, I worry for bent cards or chipped meeples, etc.

If I had time and money to throw away, I'd send Tom a harbor freight 1/2 horsepower chipper shredder.

http://www.harborfreight.com/2-1-2-half-hp-chipper-shredder-...

Then like, vasco de gama... he could go, "uh oh, not the shredder!" and then freeze the video and do a fundraiser not to throw the game in the shredder. OR throw the game in the shredder.

It would be awesome.

actually i LIKE his compnonent drop. I am pretty ocd when it comes to putting up my stuff sleeving, fishing tackle boxes, many little baggies. What i like about it is the distinct reminder that, these are meant to be played and used and, though i do not advocate active destruction, but to stop worrying so much about every little compnonent. I have some very old games that i got in the 80;'s still in relatively good condition.

the drop just tells us to relax and stop taking everything so perfectly you are never going to keep it in mint condition. I remember watching, several years ago, a video he did on heroscape. He had his kids throwing land pieces at the wall and ripping up the basic rules. These little actus just remind us to let things go and stop taking it all so seriously.

That is why i like the drop

I just wish he had a time mark Table of Contents so we could skip to the part of interest. I think I've lost a cumulative hour of my life listening to, "Bink, bonk, BOW!" followed by jazzy piano/horn section intros.

I propose that we pool our money and get a paid review for LCR. That would be an epic component drop and an epic review.

While we're on the subject, I haven't been watching his reviews for very long, and in some of them he says something like "No, I'm not going to throw it off the roof." Which game did he throw off a roof?

Vasco da Gama. It was a follow-up video; an apology for a bad review of the game. But he was faking it all along and threw it off his roof. It was epic.

I just thought of this while reading. A component drop can be useful just to see the durability of them. I personally find myself more often than not asking about a drop test for various things. My orthodontist gave me a weird look when I asked "if I just hold out my retainer in front of me and let go, would it break?" Even knowing if something can handle a basic yard/meter drop is very useful, especially if you are rather expensive.

The worst part is, he ends up doing about 15 takes on those component drops to get it right.
