One of the things that I enjoy alot about Catan is the ability to create your own map. The different kind of tiles, water and harbors give the user infinite ways to create new maps, each with their own character.

However, not all maps are good. Some maps turn out to favor the player placing 1st/2nd/3rd, others are tedious or luck is the biggest deciding factor.

Here are some that I and another user created on asobrain with the Map Editor. We are allways looking for more inspiration so I wonder:

What is your favorite map? And why?
have you lately built one that gave a great game?

(the hexes with different colors and "?" are random hexes, they are randomized at the start of the game before rolling for placement. A red cross means that no placement is allowed at the start)

This was a shape we liked to use: the bowtie (or dogbone) Islands built with this shape, or variations on it often seem to give nice competitive islands.

here's an example of 3 dogbones cluttered together quite randomly. It makes a funny little island in a minute!

The base game only includes 19 tiles so many of your maps appear to not be possible except the "dogbone"...

True You'll need to combine a couple of games or add expansions.

Also the 'randomising' would be a bit hard to do in real life. Perhaps throw a die for each tile one lays. creating the board will take some time then. But anyone who plays such map on the board is probably patient enough to do so.
