I really like games that have the following:

1. Player Interaction and Diplomacy. NOT Co-Op games.
2. A great theme that really pulls you into the world
3. Strategy
4. Players start off unique (racial abilities, different decks, etc.)
5. Replayability
6. Quality pieces. I treat my board games as art. I don't like cheaply assembled games.
7. Quick to set up and start playing.
8. Not excessively long (or at least easy to adjust the length)

Current Games I am a big fan of:

1. Game of Thrones the Board Game (Biggest criticism is the time it takes to set up the game board)
2. Illuminati

Games I was disappointed by:

1. Deck building games. Not enough player interaction. Too much predictability. In thunderstone, for example, I knew whether or not I could be a monster in a dungeon before going in. There were no surprises.

From what I have told you, would I like "Mage Knight: Board Game"? What about "Small World"? I don't know enough about the game, but it sounds like I may enjoy it. What do you think?

Thanks! I had a friend recommend this as well.

Which of the criteria does it meet? All of them?

I would say so. Setup time might be a little longer than average.

This is my chance to convey something meaningful! Darn. Wasted it.

I'd suggest Merchants & Marauders. I think it meets all of your criteria except the last one (quick to set up) though it probably relies more on tactics than strategy (criteria 3). It takes a couple of minutes to shuffle all the decks and get all the tokens on the board, but it's well worth it for the playing experience.

Chaos in the Old World meets pretty much all your criteria. Although diplomacy might need to be replaced with 'coercion' devil

these three games have all already been mentioned, but they should meet all of your requirements:

Chaos in the Old World: Diplomacy and interaction, and just about every aspect of each player is different
Cosmic Encounter: Super super high on interaction, diplomacy, and replayability (so many different player power combos that change each game that you'll never see them all)
Battlestar Galactica: Lots of interaction, and has "a great theme that really pulls you into the world" thing down better than just about any other game

Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game Is great, am sure you will like it

Small World is a lot of fun as well, worth trying out at least. There is a good version for IOS that you could try before shelling out for the boardgame (possibly even an online version as well)

Cosmic Encounter is fun and plays differently each time.

Runewars is good, been a while since I played it.

Evo is a game wherein you place dino tokens on a map, and move them around to avoid hazardous areas, while the hazards move each turn. You can evolve your dinos to survive certain hazards, reproduce quicker, move more efficiently, or attack other dinos to drive them out of their space. That sounds pretty strategic and interactive to me. In addition, the genes you need to evolve new abilities for your dinos are won in an auction process, where you and other players must bid your victory points to acquire a new ability for your dino species.

The game is in the light-medium spectrum of complexity, making it fairly easy to teach and quick to setup.

Tom Vassal says that Evo is a cousin of Small World, and they were made by the same designer. I don't know what that means, exactly, but I guess the games have similiar mechanics and gameplay? If you're looking at Small World, I'm guessing you should take a look at Evo, too. I really like the game and feel it meets your criteria. Small World seems to be more popular though.

I'm a big fan of both immerse themes and player interaction. Evo and Battlestar Galactica are two of my favorite games.

May I suggest my favourite game, Imperial?

A rondel game that plays quickly which sees players taking control of various european powers and making them fight in order to earn players the most money. A euro game with direct conflict, a stock market system, zero luck and quite a lot of diplomacy.

You should check out StarCraft: The Board Game, the theme is fantastic, very sci-fi, the pieces are the best pieces I've seen in a boardgame, the galaxy is constructed differently at the start of each game so each game is unigue, and there are 3 very unique races, each with very unique attributes and pros/cons in battle and construction, though they are each split into two factions and the only noticable difference between two factions of the same race is the special victory condition, but with the expansion this completely changes if you get the expansion as each faction gets their own unigue set of leadership cards and leaders which gives them each a selection of one-of-a kind abilities. There is a (vague) element of deck building as when you research you can add a technology card to your deck or face up in front of you though by researching you're missing out on your chance to build stuff/explore/attack so the level of researching you do is up to you.

There's also Runewars, likewise has a appealing theme, great pieces, a constructable board and 4 unique factions which again can be given different abilities with added units with the expansion (eg with the expansion the Uthuk clan is the only clan in the game that can't use any of it's units to pass mountians, but they are able to quickly swarm ememies with flesh rippers or overpower them with thier more powerful troups.

You probably would like Mage Knight, though what put me off it was that I can imagine it getting a bit samey after a while, because their doesn't seem to be that much variety in the board and you'll just be using the same four characters over and over, though they do level up differently I believe and do seem very uniqu to each other, but I don't know, I've never played it. Also Earth Reborn is worth a mention as again the boards constructable (I love constructable boards ^_^) and the pieces are great, plus there are 12 different characters with their own abilities and varying level of combat, technical/scientific, movement and searching stats. Thought if you're playing though the scenarios with 3-4 plays you'll mainly be playing co-op and the 2-4 player scenarios are VERY one-sided and are filled with over sights, so might have to wait until you get onto the random scenario generater (which doesn't have to be co-op btw) before you can start to fully enjoy the game for what it's worth. (Obviously if you play 2 player scenarios you won't have this problem)

The Road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can, Pursuing it with eager feet, Until it joins some larger way Where many paths and errands meet.

Thanks guys, for now, I ordered the following:

Cosmic Encounter w/ 1st Expansion

Battlestar Galactica

I am looking into possibly picking up Rune Wars next. It is really expensive X_X.

If you have any other suggestions, let me know! I wish I could afford all these games!

Another vote for Cosmic Encounter, Chaos in the Old World (both nail all of your requirements) and maybe Merchants & Marauders (though this last one completely fails your length requirements with long setup and playtime)
