As the topic title states, I noticed when looking at this map that there's several numbered connections from London to the European mainland, and one similar connection from Istanbul going to the north. Are these similar to the connections on the Tasmania board that cost a little extra to use (albeit differing amounts as indicated on the board), or is there something else that didn't quite make it onto the rule sheet?

They are ferry connections (presumably). Other AoS maps have them as well.

They count as one of your three builds, and cost the amount printed on the board. A player puts an ownership marker on the line when built - one player marker per line maximum.
