ive just got my copy - really disapointed to find that the material used for the boards isnt the same as the main boards..they were shiney werent they..these are a sort of a duller rougher finish which dont blend as id expected with the main board..the hex tiles are the same..wonder if anyone else feels the same way as i do ?
wouldnt you have thought they would have used the same material.

the good news on the box it says extension one..sounds like more to come!

I got my copy yesterday, but didn't notice any differences that you mentioned; both my base set & Nomads have a matt finish. I'll take another look tonight but it sounds like your base set boards are different from mine.

There are definitely two different versions of the base set.

Mine (which came with the Capitol expansion) has a shiny finish. I noticed the other day that my sister's (expansionless) copy has a much more matt finish.

Disappointed to hear Nomads won't match my base game!

Interesting.

Martin & Jood - did you perhaps get your copies from Essen? Or was this sometime later when KB was released in the UK? My copy was bought in the UK on release.

I got mine in a trade with Tony Ackroyd - it was certainly one of the first batch.

Got my copy today and the new boards are a little more reflective than the originals. I actually played a whole game without noticing but in the wrong light it is a bit annoying, still, nowhere near as bad as my Qwirkle tiles.

The game has really developed into a brain burner. I am looking forward to many games of this.

Nice to hear it Bruce. If you are still planning to do a day or even just a long evening at Rosliston then you should look over the events geek list:

Same with mine, my base game has a glossier finish.

More noticeable with mine though, is that the desert and grass regions from each set have different shades of yellow and green.

So to clarify, the expansion has the matte finish correct?

My KB is matte so I hope so.

The expansion, well my copy anyway, has boards with a satin finish rather than a matt finish and I guess the colours are the slightest shade lighter. This is minor. I played my first game without noticing.

I am ok with my copy and have no intensional of complaining about it.

Boards are OK for me. The only gripe I have is the die cutting is quite poorly lined up: completely off centred to the edge of each hex. Luckily ALL the Nomad hexes are the same so you can't tell them apart, but still... shake

Boards and tokens are all fine in my set - just as high quality as original and match up well. The colours on some of the terrain areas are slightly paler than the original (particularly the cavern spaces) but it has no impact on gameplay and still looks great. Inevitable with a different print run I would say. I'm very happy with my set.
