My fiance and I are getting into the ever expanding world of Munchkins and we're looking for some good advice. Yes, it is straight forward as to what cards to aim for and what to add on with, but we're looking to see what some opinions are regarding some card sets so we know what direction to go in.

For the base game, should we get simply the Munchkins, or should we go for the Munchkin Deluxe set? Is Munchkin Deluxe basically Munchkins with a simple board?

Are there any add-on decks that we should aim for from the beginning to add more content, such as Munchkins 2, Munchkins 3, and so on?

What about Star Munchkins or Munchkin Fu, or other "spin-off" sets?

Is the board game Munchkin Quest a good stand-alone game?

I know munchkins is meant to be easy and simple, but we don't mind adding on stuff to make it a bit more expansive. Any recommendation is welcome.

Thanks,

Jesse

The Road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can, Pursuing it with eager feet, Until it joins some larger way Where many paths and errands meet.

You could come over to the dark side and get The World of Munchkin RPG.

well you could probably get away with basic munchkin the board is ok i guess. I have just combined all of my munchkin sets into one huge mess....Keep me from having boxes and boxes of ity bity munchkin expansions. If i want to play to ten i play to ten if i want to be epic i can be epic.

Of course you can always contact steve jackson games and offer to teach munchkins at cons, game stores, game days beta test and you will have more munchkin sets, expansions, other stuff than you know what to do with. His goal is to have people run munchkin tournaments or games and then give out an expansion for free or a core set. Sort of like drugs, hey man the first hit is free.

I normally play with the base "Fantasy" set and have added in the expansions (Munchkin 2, 3, 4, et al) in numerical order and it's treated me well. I would advise to stay away from "Monster Enhancers" expansion until you have a lot more other expansions, and stay away from the newest "Half Horse, Will Travel" until you get "Need for Steed."

My cousin has a combination set of Super Munchkin and Munchkin Cthulhu. At first it sounds pretty awesome, but as you play, the cards that you really want become more rare as your deck becomes more diluted with several other themes.

I would say keep your themed sets together (all the Fantasy decks together, all the Fu decks together) and find what you ultimately are attracted to. Mine is the base Fantasy set.
