After waiting and watching the P500 not move, I went ahead and purchased an expensive new copy from Cool Stuff, after all if it never gets reprinted the price will only go up(I keep telling myself this to make me feel better). Anyway, I was planning on diving in this weekend and wondered which is the best way to proceed - watch all the videos 1st then read the rules or read rules and then watch the videos? Any suggestions welcomed.

You can probably do both concurrently.

At least start reading the rules, you don't have to read the entire book, just enough to be familiar with the style and concepts, skim through if you can...(maybe an hour of reading)

...then start watching the Chris Hobbs videos with the rulebook handy and maybe the VASSAL module or physical game too (so that you can move pieces, flip cards, etc..)

If you haven't done so also bookmark the ConSimWorld thread for Fields of Fire

Here is a general plan to get going. Watch the Mission 1 Walkthrough videos by LancerDeuce up through turn 2 (go back to the remaining videos later as needed). That is still about an hour of tutorial to get started. This will give you a good feel. Take a quick read through the 2.0 rules. If you don't have the 2.0 version you can download it here:

Download this file if you want help punching, sorting and storing your counters:

Print out the following user tools to use:

And finally, if you have rules questions while you are playing you can use this website:

The community is also very helpful when you post questions in the forums here. Have fun!!!

Thanks for the the info. I printed out the v2 rules earlier in the week and bought card protectors and several of the GMT counter trays for the counters so I believe I am good to go. Only thing now left is to grab some more beer on the way home from work try to knock out the yard work tonight so I can retreat to my man cave and lock myself in - away from the wife Saturday.

Just curious if you stumbled on any other copies of it still available from stores. Seems like it's out of stock everywhere. You must have got the last copy at Cool Stuff.

Ron not at all as planned! Printed out some of the items you pointed out and finally watched I believe 5 episodes last night. Figure I will keep chipping away at it each night and try and do a dry run maybe Thursday.

Peter, I did grab the "expensive" copy from Cool Stuff last week. They seem to have some pop up every now and then. I have been watching them wanting to pull the trigger and just finally did.(went ahead and rounded it out to $100 in order to skip the freight) The GMT P500 just seems to not be moving much, and I feared the price would only go up.
