I just wanted to remind everyone that GMT games is also planning a deluxe edition of No Retreat! The North African Front, but only if they get enough preorders through their P500 system; right now they're at about 450ish of the 700 or so it'll take for them to actually produce the game (and they claim they'll consider adding even more No Retreats after that if there's enough interest in NR:TNAF).

Well...

It would be REALLY hard to do a solitaire module for the main game, and it will not work well IMHO.

BUT do not despair! There will be a solitaire module for the "Crete invasion" add-on bonus game.

Already pre-ordered. You could put Carl Paradis' name on almost anything at this point and I would probably pick it up Him and Jim Krohn are two really good designers that need to be hooked up to some sort of game-idea extracting machine.

You can read about it on it's pages. I think it has like . . . scenario type campaigns that effect the next one as you battle across the desert. But don't quote me on that!

This is not eactly correct. But the battles are fought on 5 separate maps, and you go from one to the other depending on the ebb-and-flow of the campaign.

So instead of having a Loooong map of North Africa on the table, with all the counters bunched on a smallish front lines, you have those multiple maps (more details), plus a strategic maps. This allowed me to put more detail where it counts (the 100 or so miles deep of coastal terrain where 99% of the action and troops where).

I really don't understand why this concept was not tried before.

As for the P500 thing. GMT was intent on publishing the game late this year (they had a slot available), but I doubt this will happen as the 700+ orders need to be reached. Well, less design work for me to do this summer I guess (i need to finish the "Crete" bonus game). I'll be able to play some games instead!
