At Maker Faire this past year, I ran across a dude who had put together a gadget that scans Twitter for all tweets sent to a specific account and prints them out on a neverending roll of paper.

Way cool, right? I think it would be AWESOME to have something similar set up at bgg.con. However, I can't program and don't understand a word of the instructions. Anyone out there wanna help me put this together? I'm pretty sure if we get it to work, we can get it set up somewhere in the main hall.

Rather than wasting paper why not project tweets onto a wall or screen? This would certainly make them more accessible to a crowd of people. If you wanted to keep a record you could probably find a way to write them into a log file.

The printer looks cool but it says it is meant as a statement against waste in cash register receipts.

I'm a bit of a hacker. This looks cool, but I don't know if I'll have time to work on it.

When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder? I'm green, and it'll do fine: it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.

Why only capture things sent to a specific account? Why not everything that includes a specific hashtag regardless of account?

Put this on a screen display as someone suggested, and use a hashtag, and what you get is exactly the advertising (the only advertising) twitter did at SXSW several years back that made them famous. That's it. At the time I had no idea why there were big monitors everywhere showing short bursts of misspelled text.

That's actually EXACTLY what I want to do, except I don't have the skills to make it happen. I figured 99% of you do.

So, anyone interested??

How big of a screen? It would be cool to build a giant LED matrix display, but we are talking some serious coin for that.

You can get a projector and display on a wall if there is a white one available or movie screen. A local con does this for posting scores during tournaments.

The con has typically already had a screen in a main public area in the past, seems like it shouldn't be difficult to include a twitter stream of the #bggcon hashtag.

I've been to tech conferences that did the #hashtag thing and it quickly slid down into the gutter with people tweeting questionable stuff to get attention. All cool until somebody starts trying too hard to be funny (talking about booth babes, etc.)

No such thing! Now, where can I hide this Jungle Speed totem...

OK, there is such a thing. I only hid the totem the first two times, and then others started getting mean about it. But yeah, I don't know that even rude tweets would slow this con down...
