Most of you know that I do not find their new rules for ASW to make any sense.

Ships alone can't look for and find Subs. The ocean is too big and Subs are hard to see as they are small. Sonar is very short range, so submerged Subs could sneek past UK DD at the Straight of Gibraltar easily.

DD will eventually lose a submerged Sub if it doesn't sink it. Here this means Subs can submerge after they are attacked once.

My solution would be to add CVE called Hunter Killer Groups. These are a mix of ships types-- CVE, DD, & DE. They can't carry a plane here, but they do have planes to search out Subs & attack them on the surface and DD to depth charge them after they submerge. (CVE stands for Escort Aircraft Carrier.)

CVE are 3-3 move 2 for 12 IPC. They can attack Subs. They bombard at 3 because of the planes they carry. CA should cost less now.

DD are now used as the cheap ship to die, but they can also get 1 last attack when an attacking Sub submerges to end its part of a battle. DD can not attack Subs that are alone, they can't find them.

CVE sculpts can be bought at:

for 45 cents each.

I agree with you about the ASW rules but I don't think adding a new piece is necessary.

Let Aircraft (or a Carrier) declare a special "ASW" attack @1 anytime, not just when destroyers are present. Destroyers cannot attack Subs but can defend.
