Talking about classes this time, specifically the Knight and the Berserker. And hey, we have a new character to gawk at.

I'm sure the news that the arrow icon simply indicates that the ability uses an action will be celebrated with gusto.

Oath of Honor requires an action to perform, as indicated by its action icon (this does not, however, mean that it must be exhausted), and a hero must suffer one point of fatigue to use it.

Igor. Hat. In your mouth. Now.

Okay - gotta say I am *loving* the new skills. They seem a whole hell of a lot more interesting and thematic than the 1E skills. Can't wait to see the cards for mages!

Am I interpreting that right? That you can no longer pick starting equipment? Le boo if so.

Ok, everything by order.

The rest about preview.

Like that starting skill will be not random and only 1. Like shown skills very much. Think it will be more thematic hero building than in 1E.
One usage of surge item ability per combat is a great one. Also I think (but it not confirmed) monsters will have the same restriction.
Man, I love this game more and more with each preview. Give it to me, I wanna play it already.

As I understood, you can pick starting equipment only from available to your class only.

EDIT.

Quote:
The Berserker class starts with the two-handed Chipped Greataxe,
while the Knight class begins with a Wooden Shield and Iron Longsword.
These starting item cards are each part of their respective Class decks.

Yep, starting skill and items are predefined to each class and archetype.

The one-use limitation on surge abilities will make weapons and spells less abusively powerful, and make damage less swing-y. It also allows for skills like "use a weapon surge ability twice".

That's probably why it costs 3 xp and uses 2 fatigue each use. I'm assuming that it is counting wounds, not remaining health, given the context that it is mentioned in the article.

Also.

and look for Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition and the Conversion Kit this summer!

I think any speculations about release date (as on FFG forum saying that it will be 2012 christmas) totally busted.

Everything until today sounds really really AWESOME, but i'm worried because the knock-out system will make or break the game.

Let's hope for the best.

PS: I hope skills will be the only use for fatigue.

I think there will be fatique usage besides skills. For movement, may be for rerolling since there no aim orders...

Maybe, though the existence of Rage makes me think that fatigue may only be for skills now. If there is a skill for "1 fatigue = +1 wound", then it's not a hop, skip and a jump to presume that there are skills for "1 fatigue = +1 movement", etc.

If the berserk ability deals +1dmg for 1 fatigue rerolling only a single die would outclass this ability by far. Especially considering it's flexibility

Also, I wonder what the convoluted wording on Weapon Mastery is all about.

Agree with both of you.
There probably will be everything by skills.
Skill that grant dodge-like or aim-like ability, convert fatigue to movement. That will be more thematic. Fighter can gather all of his strength and make devastating attack while Scout can push himself to the limit and run for very long distance.

Ahhh, you got me. No, just that thought I like more than my own about fatique usage.

I think it's just to clarify ability beforehand. Thematically it's about "when performing and attack and both of your hands are holding melee weapon...", but in that case there will be questions about this skill and it's usage.

That's biting a hat. I demand X-rays to see that the hat was ingested.

What does this mean:

Why are the same surge abilities listed twice? I take it it's no longer "spend a surge and get this ability as many times as you want/can", it's simply just "spend 1 surge, gain this ability, once only."?

Spoke too soon (and I was right):

Quote:
A Word on Surges

Veterans of first edition may notice that the Chipped Greataxe lists two seemingly redundant surge effects. This is because unlike in first edition, a single surge effect in Second Edition may only be triggered once per roll. Players unfamiliar with surge mechanics, or those who wish to know more, should check back soon. We’ll discuss surges in more detail in our upcoming preview of Second Edition’s updated combat system.

Ah, that's it. It's basically saying "when you make a melee attack and you are not holding anything else apart from melee weapons". That's the concept I wasn't getting. Thanks.
