Good day!

Is the current scale the same with the previous miniatures?

Zvezda Samurai Infantry

Zvezda Samurai Cavalry

Zvezda Samurai Headquarters

Thanks!

The number on the box is a same "1/72", but height of the figures is different. So this minis not compatible with previous miniatures sets.

LOL... Not true.

The only thing not compatible, sort of, are the bases if you plan on using the movement trays. The earlier Zvezda samurai have a narrower base. I am planning on fixing this by molding out the old bases with green stuff.

How to use some of the older Zvezda figures will not be known until we see the rules for the game. I suppose we'll see plenty of house rules for those until the official rules are published.

I'll post my comparison photos tomorrow.

Read the rulebook, plan for all contingencies, and…read the rulebook again.

A Command Decision (WWII miniatures) club I used to belong to on the Indiana University campus would mix 1/72 and 1/76-scale WWII figures and vehicles. There were only two rules they observed: 1) No Rocco, however cool-looking or niche and 2) scale had to be consistent within a company-sized unit. This only really affected artillery and vehicle units. 1/72 and 1/76 infantry could co-exist on the same stand with some imaginative modeling of the bases.

If these are not compatible in size then I don't know what to say.

[Edit]
The black, white and tan figures are primed for my first round of test painting.

I'd say go buy yourself a ruler. New figures are 2.5mm higher. If you OK with it - it is your call. But saying what it's not difference between old and new models is far from truth.

Steven,

Would you say that the newer figures are better quality? Different plastic?

Are there short or tall people where you live or is everyone an exact 2.3 meters tall? whistle

If the 2.5mm difference is too much for one to bear then I will concede that the sets are indeed incompatible.

Honestly they are just toy soldiers that will be used in a very abstract game. I am more than happy to work with them and finally put them to good use.

Hard to tell on the detail quality.
Both are fantastic for 1/72.
The newer figs could be easily modified to be more dynamic but are fine as is.

The plastic is some what of a draw.
The newer figs are a bit harder giving me concern about frequent handling and breakage but they take paint much better.

The older figs are more forgiving and will hopefully take paint well... I have painted some like WWII figs and the paint will flake if flexed too much.

I'll give it a test tonight if I have time.

Richard Borg explained to me that he used and developed Samurai Battles with the original Zvezda samurai miniatures. We also discussed that one could even use the figures from Shogun/Samurai Swords/Ikusa to augment this game.
