So I am in a group of gaming.. We currently have

Small world (mine)
Dominion
Settlers of Catan
Zombies
Munchkin Zombies
Gimme the brains
Porto Rico
Carcassonne
Resident Evil
Thunderstone
WoW (on the way)
Dragon Spire
Wrath
Stoneage
whack a cruisade

I am looking to own my own deck building game, I was thinking Arcana revised.. Had good reviews.. But what would YOU guys suggest?? I'm kindof new to all of this, not because I don't love it, because I just found this group..

Ascension: Deckbuilding Game is very good, and currently under $30 on Amazon.

Except it's not a deck building game. I love the LCGs too, but that's an entirely different mechanic.

I would suggest maybe Core Worlds. I like that you're building a deck to DO something rather than just building a deck for the sake of building a deck.

I find LOTR LCG overly complex/dragging. Sold it.

Arcana revised edition is a good choice.

The Road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can, Pursuing it with eager feet, Until it joins some larger way Where many paths and errands meet.

Eminent Domain is one of the best deckbuilders out there. Easy to teach, accessible theme, and a great spin on the mechanic.

Also not a deck-builder.

Ascension is much better on the IOS and Lord of the Rings LCG costs a lot to get all the expansion packs. Not to mention that I think it is the most overhyped game (plus you can only play with 2 with a single deck).

I would vote for Dominion Prosperity, Core Worlds or Eminent Domain.

This. For 30 bucks, I can't think of another multiplayer game that does it

I don't know a lot about Dominion but I do know that certain expansions add a LOT to the game

IMHO, Quarriors! is a great deck building game! Without the deck, though!

Welcome to the geek!

Ooooh yeah. Quarriors is a dice-building game. Forgot about that. Look into it!

Lords of Vegas has a similar dice mechanic and is an excellent social game, though its dice method is similar to bordering a resource in Catan, only more dynamic and less luck-prone

I love Arcana and how it is basically a bluffing game where your hard-won cards can help you in following rounds; well, that how we played it, I think it depends on your gaming group.

If you are still searching for alternatives, I can recommend Rune Age.
Another twist: it is a confrontational game where your army is a deck of cards
(if you like this kind of things)
It should be fairly cheap, about the same price range as Arcana.

Thunderstone is fun.

I just read the question Arcana does look pretty cool.

The character art is really unique and the game looks pretty fun.
I was going to buy the game just for the location cards because I thought they would be good for WFRP.
I haven't bought it yet though.

Arcana is an awesome choice. I've been singing its praises since I bought the original AEG version. Arcana is the game that made me lose faith in BGG, actually, because here was a unique and fun deckbuilder that was genuinely trying to be DIFFERENT than Dominion and yet it was totally ignored.

Brian, your recommendation helped me to buy this game a while ago. I love it, and your praises were correct. Its affordable, and you are actually doing something to obtain the cards you'll need for your deck by the bidding/bluffing concept which is very nice to do. Thanks for your recommendation at that time. I hope more people read it and hopefully will consider playing/buying it and loving it as much as I do.

Woah, a game that lets you gain victory point cards and then set them aside so you still get the points but they don't clog up your deck? That was one of my pet peeves about Thunderstone (it feels so freaking unthematic. Who the hell in real life gets less effective at what they do by accomplishing more?). I should look into this game

Not really a deck-builder, but if your group enjoys Puerto Rico then Race for the Galaxy is a pretty good bet.
