Hey guys!

I'm looking for a very specific kind of game suitable for a group of 5 weekly players!

I'm looking for 1 of two types of game...

The first is...

A character development style game where players can pick a character and develop it throughout one or several games. Almost like an rpg video game but a board game!

The second is...

A strategy style game, building resources invading, etc etc

Anything at all would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers

Are these both to be conflict driven games? You want to be in combat with the other players?

Looking at your collection, Descent: Journeys in the Dark would be a good next step; the Descent: The Sea of Blood has character development during the story line. However, the first edition is hard to find now. You can to wait for Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) to come out (expected soon), or buy a second-hand 1st edition.

Either or! Does not have to be a necessity!

Strategy game: Cyclades

Awesome board, and cool figurines!

Euro style bidding / conquering game / resources game with a fantastic "Clash of the Titans" style setting. Superb production values. Highly recommended! It ticks all the boxes!

Not sure it quite fits either of your requirements (well maybe the second somewhat), but you should have a look at Chaos in the Old World - with the expansion if you have 5 players.

Suddenly a shot rang out! A door slammed. The maid screamed. Suddenly a pirate ship appeared on the horizon! While millions of people were starving, the king lived in luxury. Meanwhile, on a small farm in Kansas, a boy was growing up.

Isn't Runewars essentially supposed to be both of these simultaneously?

I think Risk Legacy has both of these elements - provided you can get past the concept of a "disposable game".yuk It is an invasion-type game that you play in a series of 12(?) games, and I believe players acquire distinctive abilities over time based on the outcome of each game.
