I play a lot of games. I play euro games, I play train games, I play role-playing games, and I play wargames.

I also have three cats. And it seems that only with the last category (with some very rare exceptions) that said cats decide they want to plop down in the middle of it and scatter all the counters or knock down the Columbia blocks. They don't get on the table and bat around the dice when we're playing D&D. They don't knock over the Castillo in El Grande. They don't muss with the 1830 stock market.

But the second I consult a CRT, they're all over it.

So, I ask you: what is it about wargames that cats find so attractive?

Widespread destruction is second nature to them.

Cats are hopelessly attracted to maps;
they are born cartographers.

I don't own Cats but twice have had cats literally take a crap on miniature games when somebody left the garage door open. When it was a sand table it made sense. But the other time it was not a sand table. The cat crapped in the middle of the table then buried the crap with stands of figures and rail road Lichen. These incidents have have not left me with much affection for the Feline kingdom in general.

One cat I had would always sit squarely on the Russian Front of whatever game I had set up (when I didn't have a room I could close her out of ). Most counters to pad her behind? I dunno.

Now our cats only get supervised visits to the war room.

We have one cat that's fond of knocking dice and wooden blocks around. I have a feeling it's more about them wanting to be the center of attention. If everyone is concentrating on what's on the table, they want to be part of it.

A friend of mine lost a copy of Winter War that way. I suppose counters and stands of figures look to some cats like little stones and leaves and things that they'd use in nature. I've never had this experience but I make my game room a cat-free zone.

My cats love war-games too. I've gotten up from a game of Baltic Gap to get a beer during a short minute break. Kitty decided to nap in the middle of it. Counters everywhere. Nothing quite as disheartening as hours and hours of a game wasted. At least they don't EAT the counters.

My cat loves Commands and Colors. When ever I sticker the parts she always comes around and bats the wooden blocks. Then one day she decided (right after we had set up for a 2nd game) to pay the board a visit. Mom and I thought it was too funny so we just let her roll with it.
